Position Summary:

The Carpenter Assistant acts as the right hand to the experienced carpenters watching learning and assisting in the field. The successful incumbent is ready to perform numerous construction tasks unsupervised when required and travel to various jobs throughout the day to meet business requirements.

Tasks include assisting in building and installations, inspections, removal, replacement, repair, maintenance of wooden or part wooden items which form part of buildings (such as windows and stairs), assist with storage, lifting, fetching supplies, unload and check deliveries and undertaking tasks to generally helping the Carpenters.

Specific Accountabilities:

1.Safety & Compliance

The Carpenter Assistant supports a safe work culture and is responsible for understanding and accepting the role’s importance and legal liability.

This includes:

• Knowing and understanding the requirements of the OHSA

• Knowing, understanding, communicating and ensuring compliance with the OHSA, and company safety policies and procedures

• Participate in the mandatory safety toolbox meetings

• Ensuring completion of initial safety and hazard assessments

• Participating in safety/incident investigations

2.General Labour

The incumbent supports the job sites by helping work run smoother, including cleaning and preparing sites to ensure debris is appropriately removed, building scaffolding and other temporary structures, operating and maintaining equipment and digging trenches.

This includes:

· Prep construction sites by cleaning obstacles

· Load or unload construction materials.

· Put together and take apart temporary structures, such as scaffolding.

· Remove, fill, or compact earth.

· Perform site clean-up.

· Set up and take down of poly containment and drop sheets to accommodate work

· Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, and compact and level earth to grade specifications using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, and rakes.

· Shovel cement and other materials into portable cement mixers; and mix, pour and spread concrete

· Operate a variety of hand and power tools, including drills, forklifts, skid loaders and other tools as directed by management

3.Rough Carpentry/Framing

This includes:

· Support wood and steel stud framing application

· Support the installation of insulation and vapour barrier

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: $15.00-$22.00 per hour
