The Parliamentary Protective Service (PPS) is a separate employer and is not subject to the Public Service Employment Act (PSEA). PPS has its own classification, compensation system, and a different staffing regime. As such, we use a different staffing process and terminology. Persons appointed to PPS continue to be part of the federal government and will receive the public service pension plan and public service insurance benefits plan, which include health, dental, disability and life insurance plans.

Duties

This position is responsible for the delivery of professional Information Technology services and the provision of technical support services to clients across the organization (e.g., technical PC, operating systems, applications, data communications, hardware/software and connectivity support) in the areas of human resources, finance, materiel management, planning, information technology, and, corporate communications. The Desktop Support is responsible for the resolution of first level technical issues/problems of requests related to telecommunication matters.

Work environment

The Director of the Parliamentary Protective Service reports directly to the Speakers of the Senate and the House of Commons, who act as custodians of the powers, rights, privileges and immunities of their respective chambers and members.

The Director also reports to the Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police on operational matters. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police leads security-related activities in accordance with the terms of an agreement between the Speakers of both Houses and the Ministers of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness.

Intent of the process

The purpose of this recruitment and selection process is to establish a pool of qualified or pre-qualified candidates to staff one (1) position on a temporary basis for a duration of one (1) year with a possibility of extension. The pool may also be used in the future to staff similar positions on a temporary or indeterminate basis within PPS.

EDUCATION:

Successful completion of a post-secondary educational program in computer science, information technology, information systems management, or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed OR an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCES:

Experience in providing assistance to clients dealing with technical IT (Information technology)-related issues and enquiries.

Experience in administrative incident management, receiving problems, assigning diagnoses and reporting incidents to the appropriate team.

Experience in providing a variety of informatics support services (both hardware and software) (e.g. installation, configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting problems, inventory).

Experience in managing access controls with various IT departments administering user accounts and privilege access in Active Directory.

ASSETS:

Experience of configuring and supporting mobile devices (IOS and Android).

Experience of configuring and trouble shooting VOIP and Centrex desktop phones.

Conditions of employment

All candidates must be eligible to obtain both a Site Access Clearance, and Enhanced Reliability Status (ERS)*with Secret/Top Secret clearance where required*.
