Your Opportunity:

Major areas of responsibility as part of the Aberdeen Office include: Providing screening, assessment and counselling services to high risk women with addiction/mental health issues; being familiar with, and making appropriate referrals to community agencies and groups; and providing consultation to individuals, agencies and groups with respect to substance abuse, gambling and mental health. The Addictions Counselor III position reports to the Clinical Supervisor of the Justice & Treatment Initiatives. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

Description:

As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will provide quality, client focused, recovery based and culturally appropriate assessment, treatment, case management, crisis intervention, education and referral services for clients and their families; as well as community stabilization services. You will develop and implement treatment plans and provide a range of interventions which offer least intrusive and most appropriate services to clients and their families. You will also monitor and evaluate client progress and achievement of recovery goals and adapt treatment as needed. As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will depend on your excellent relationship building skills with clients, families, government staff and colleagues.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of a bachelor’s degree in Addictions or a combination of a bachelor’s degree in a related field with course work in addictions. A related degree combined with a diploma related to addictions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, may be considered. Individuals eligible for registration under the Health Professions Act must maintain active registration. Individuals may require authorization/permission under regulation to perform restricted psychosocial interventions and/or restricted activities.

Additional Required Qualifications:

If education is Social Work degree or diploma, current/valid Registration with Alberta College of Social Work is required. Undergraduate degree or 2 year Social Work diploma. An equivalent combination of education and experience. BLS/CPR.
