Do you love to cook & bake and have experience working in a commercial kitchen? Help us meet the needs of the Medicine Hat community by joining our kitchen team! The Mustard Seed is committed to helping people who are homeless transition toward and maintain sustainable and healthy lifestyles. The Mustard Seed Community Centre serves breakfast daily, including weekends.

Reporting to the Food Services Coordinator, you will work on an as needed basis as a member of the Food Services team. You, as an experienced cook you will share the responsibilities in the kitchen between prepping, cooking, baking, serving, stocking, and cleaning. A food safety training certificate will be provided on as on the job training.

We need you to participate in the delivery of a healthy and nutritious meal program, including preparation and serving of meals in our new professional kitchen. You must be willing to ensure health and safety standards are met and so cleaning and maintenance of the kitchen is key as is the ability to support the all the procedures, standards, and policies of the Environmental Health Services guidelines regarding how food is prepared, handled, and stored.

Schedule: As needed basis

Location: The Mustard Seed Community Centre, Medicine Hat

• Good time management and organizational skills are a necessity for menu planning, staff scheduling, food ordering and planning special events
• A self-starter with the ability to work independently to plan and prepare the daily meal for minimum of 80 guests without assistance from supervisor
• Plan and prep all weekly baking needs for the daily meal program
• Be conscientious of food costs and budgets when menu planning and in the preparation of meals
• Must be willing to be trained and complete an Alberta Health Services Food Safety Certification course
• Be willing to take any necessary training the Mustard Seed requires
• Computer skills are needed. Email and data entry are important for tracking
  
  

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Periods of lifting at least 50 pounds on a regular basis, standing, and walking will be required as part of this role
• Background checks are required, and you must be eligible to work for any employer in Canada.
