About the Role

We’re looking for a dynamic Field Specialist to become a key player in our team at Encepta. This is a fantastic opportunity for tech-savvy students or skilled field technicians who love to travel and thrive in outdoor environments. Gear up for a summer full of exploration as you gather critical data to shape the future of fiber optic communications.

As a Field Specialist, you will:

  • Engage in extensive fieldwork, collecting data crucial for the design and construction of state-of-the-art fiber optic networks.
  • Travel extensively from your home base throughout the summer, becoming a pioneer in our expansive field operations.
  • Work alongside experienced team leads and managers who will guide you through your daily tasks and ensure you’re always on the right track.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform field measurements and infrastructure information for outside plant telecommunications and shallow utilities designs
  • Perform site visits across Vancouver Island and Lower Mainland to collect and analyze measurements, observations, photos, and GPS data of related to telephone poles, civil structures, and utilities.
  • Maintain rigorous standards of data quality and accuracy, contributing to high-quality engineering projects.
  • Adhere to and promote strict training, operational, and health & safety protocols.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members across different locations, ensuring smooth communication and workflow.
  • Handle additional tasks as directed by your manager to support team objectives.

Requirements

  • Willing to travel from home base for most of the summer.
  • Willing to work outside as well as in confined spaces, such as manholes, in all seasonal weather situations.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications equipment assets and understanding of design principles and processes.
  • Independent decision-making and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well within diverse, cross-functional teams.
  • Valid Class 5 or equivalent driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Professional and friendly approach in public interactions.
  • Robust work ethic, with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to quality assurance.
  • Physically able to perform an active job with occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
