Job Title: Family Support Worker

Location: Oak Tree School, Truro

Salary: Up to £23,300 per annum depending on experience

Hours: 42.5 hours per week; Monday to Friday, 8am - 4.30pm

Contract: Permanent, Full time

This is a great opportunity for a Family Support Worker who wants to use their safeguarding knowledge and experience to protect pupils with varied and complex needs.

About The Role

Your work will be challenging and rewarding in equal measure, and you will be working in a school where we maintain a strong safeguarding culture, where pupils are listened to, respected and involved in as many decisions as possible.

Setting up parent/pupil events as part of the curriculum to enhance home school learning/family learning (catering workshops/art workshops). Continue to build on and improve communication systems between school and home. Explore other forms of communication via phone apps that link to individual classes and give parents daily updates, curriculum information, events. Deliver parent communication training to all new staff as part of their induction. Build even closer links with Adult Education re delivery of family learning sessions and well-being sessions and Read Easy (support for parents who are unable to read) to enhance parent participation in their pupil’s learning. Furthermore, they will devise a programme of events/curriculum workshops for joint learning for students with their parents or carers.

When it comes to looking after our pupils, we never settle for second best. We are looking for a Family Support Worker, experienced in working as part of a safeguarding team, who shares our vision to build incredible futures by empowering vulnerable young people in the UK, to be happy and to make their way in the world. You will take a lead role in the safeguarding induction of colleagues and deal with disclosures of varying severity, acting upon these accordingly.

About Us

Oak Tree School is a specialist provision positioned near the city of Truro in Cornwall. The school provides full-time specialist co-education for up to 83 pupils and young people aged 7 to 16 who experience social, emotional, mental health, communication difficulties and associated challenging behaviours. These pupils and young people often cannot cope, function or achieve within a mainstream environment. The aim is to provide a structured, nurturing approach, with pupils accessing a broad, balanced and engaging curriculum to meet their significant needs.

This opportunity is in Truro which is within commutable distance of Redruth, St Austell and surrounding areas.
