Red Deer Addiction & Mental Health Child & Youth Program has a unique opportunity for a Family Counsellor to join our team! The Family Counsellor is responsible for providing assessment/diagnosis, treatment services and follow-up to a varied caseload consisting of individuals and families who are experiencing distress related to moderate to severe mental illness. This is a specialized discipline working from a systemic theoretical and experiential background. You will collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of health professionals, with Red Deer’s overarching Children’s Team. You understand the complex relationships between the youth’s physical, emotional, mental, developmental and spiritual health. Red Deer is in Central Alberta near the midpoint of the Calgary-Edmonton corridor. It is Alberta’s third-most-populous city with just over 100,000 citizens. There are many multi-use recreational centers and golf courses. You will love living in this beautiful city, which has all the amenities you could need and still offers a small town, friendly feel.

Description:

As a Family Counsellor, you will provide assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up to clients and their families. You will also provide clinical focused consultation with other programs or community resources and acts as a liaison to develop and promote preventative health programs in the community. You will collaborate with other health care providers and community service providers to ensure a continuum of care in the community.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of master’s degree in a health related field. Active or eligible for registration with applicable professional association or college.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Completion of one of the following programs: master’s degree in Psychology; master’s degree in Social Work (clinical specialization), master’s degree in marriage and family therapy, including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy; master’s degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy; master’s degree in Nursing and Psychiatric Nursing including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Five years post graduate experience working with children, youth and families with complex needs required.
