BCIT’s Electrical Engineering and Technologydepartment is seeking a temporary, full-time (1.0 FTE ) Faculty, Electrical Engineering and Technology.This position will deliver lectures and perform laboratory activities in-person, develop course material, evaluate (including marking) student progress, supervise student projects, and support the day-to-day operations of the department. As valued members of our team of respected faculty with extensive industry experience and knowledge, the ideal candidates will bring practical skills to the classroom, inspiring and guiding future practitioners in their field.

BCIT’s Department of Electrical Engineering and Technology offers diplomas in electrical engineering technology with options in electrical power and industrial control, telecommunications and networking, and automation and instrumentation, as well as bachelor and master degrees in electrical engineering. BCIT is a leader in hands-on practical education. We are looking for an individual passionate about learning and teaching to join our team.

Duties & Responsibilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in subject areas related to electrical engineering and technology.
The successful candidates will be expected to teach the following courses:
  • ELEX4336 – Feedback Systems
  • ELEX4550 – Wide Area Networks
  • ELEX4640 – Internet of Things
following current course outlines.
Course descriptions are available for these courses at the lings above. Course material is also available from prior terms and may be used.
As a passionate educator, successful candidate will leverage their expertise to engage and challenge students, fostering a collaborative and inclusive learning environment.
Additionally, the successful candidates will be responsible to meet the course learning objectives, design course material, create a positive learning environment for students, participate in department activities, engage with team members, support continuous improvement initiatives within the department, and other duties as specified in the collective agreement.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS :

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Minimum five years of relevant, hands-on industry experience is essential.
  • Effective command of the English language, both written and oral, is essential.
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work both collaboratively and independently.

Candidates must have a solid foundation in local access network technologies, wide area networks, feedback control systems, and the internet-of-things.
Knowledge and practical experience in one or more of the following areas is required:
  • Setup, management, and configuration of service provider protocols such as MPLS, OSPF, and BGP systems.
  • Principles and performance analysis of network access technologies such as POTS, ADSL, DOCSIS, and PON.
  • IOT protocols and applications.
  • Theory and practice of classical feedback control theory including time and S-domain analysis and implementation.

Desirable Qualifications:
The following skills and experience will be considered an asset:
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to learners and provide a positive learning environment to students working at different skill levels including international students and students requiring accommodation.
  • Experience with curriculum development.
  • Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Licensee Engineer (P.L. Eng.) in BC.

Salary Range: $63,150 - $110,238 per annum.

Additional Salary Information
Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment. Salary based on education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
