SALTA Gymnastics Club is a Not-for-Profit organization located in sunny Medicine Hat, Alberta. SALTA has been an integral part of the community, providing various gymnastics programs for many levels and disciplines of gymnastics, since 1988. Our vision is to encourage and promote gymnastics for youth in a fun, safe, and welcoming environment while developing a strong junior coaching program. SALTA Gymnastics Club is seeking to fill a newly developed position of Executive Director.

Responsibilities

The Executive Director position is a salaried management position that reports to the Board of Directors overseeing the implementation of all SALTA programs including delivery and program evaluation, as well as being responsible for the successful leadership and management of the organization according to the strategic direction set by the Board. The Executive Director will work directly with the Competitive and Recreational Coordinators to ensure the effective and efficient operation of SALTA’s vision, policies, and procedures. This exciting opportunity will grow our administrative and coaching team who oversee more than 1500 recreational athletes and has a dedicated Junior Olympic competitive program, Performance Group, and internal programs. The role has an extensive set of responsibilities that include:

  • Develop innovative and creative ideas, with assistance from the Board of Directors, to lead the organization towards growth and development in line with the Club’s vision and strategic plan;
  • Act as a professional advisor to the Board of Directors on all aspects of the organization’s activities;
  • Oversee the day-to-day delivery of the programs and services of the organization to maintain or improve quality, ensuring all insurances, club website and IT, risk management and facility needs are functional and updated;
  • Be flexible to work varied hours to meet the needs of the recreation and competitive programs and whole organization;
  • Establish a positive, healthy, and safe work environment in accordance with all appropriate policies, legislation and regulations while fostering effective teamwork between the Board, staff, Volunteers, and contractors;
  • Oversee the implementation of human resources policies, procedures and practices, including the development and maintenance of a Human Resources policy manual and job descriptions for all staff;
  • Work collaboratively with the Board of Directors Executive to recruit, interview, and hire new staff, preparing employee contracts, participating in performance discussions with employees, and managing HR concerns;
  • Ensure appropriate staffing consistent with program and member needs, within the constraints of the organization’s physical and financial resources, and regulatory requirements as per AGF;
  • Draft policies for the approval of the Board; review existing policies, as per a schedule set out by the Board and recommend changes to the Board as appropriate
  • Work with staff, the Board of Directors, and Club Treasurer, to prepare a comprehensive budget and administer the funds of the organization according to the approved budget, monitor the monthly cash flow of the organization, and manage the financial reporting;
  • Manage and secure adequate funding for the Club’s operation in support of it’s strategic goals and the planning of marketing strategies;
  • Ensure representation of the organization at community activities and events to enhance SALTA’s community profile;
  • Overseeing the management of SALTA’s social media platforms.

Qualifications:

  • University degree preferred or equivalent in not-for-profit management, sport management, recreation, business, or a related discipline;
  • Five(5) or more years of progressive management experience in a voluntary sector organization or comparable management role preferred;
  • Knowledge of all federal and provincial legislation applicable to not-for-profit sports organization; including employment standards, human rights, occupational health and safety, charities, taxation, CPP, EI, health benefits, etc.;
  • General knowledge and experience with human resources management, financial management, and project management preferred;
  • Respect in Sport Certified and completion of Making Ethical Decisions;
  • Current CPR/First Aid Certification;
  • Current and clear police record check, including vulnerable sector search;
  • Current and clear Intervention Services Record Check.
