To support us on our journey, Sinai Health System is looking for aWard Clerk to support our Reconstructive Ortho/ENT (11 North)department at our Mount Sinai Hospital Campus.

The Ward Clerk plays a key role in fostering communication and coordination related to patient care in the Department, providing general administrative support to the multi-disciplinary team within this fast-paced environment.

  • Receives, greets and screens patients/families/visitors coming into the unit
  • Coordinates admissions, discharges and transfers within and external to the department
  • Processes patient appointments (i.e. outpatient clinic referrals, outpatient diagnostic imaging tests)
  • Compiles patient information and disassembles charts for Health Records
  • Oversees patient charts on the unit and for quality assurance purposes
  • Utilizes electronic systems to capture length of stay information pertinent to the patient’s journey and contributing to the fiscal health of the department
  • Provides overall administrative support i.e. answering/directing incoming telephone calls, updating whiteboards, photocopying, faxing, ordering of supplies, word processing
  • Provides customer service to patients and visitors by answering questions and assisting with wayfinding
  • Coordinates the sterilization or repair of medical and office equipment and collaborates with the Help Desk and Building Services around routine maintenance and requests
  • Participates in activities to upgrade and enhance one’s job-related knowledge/skills through in-service training sessions, quality improvement initiatives, and policy manual review
  • Assists with the orientation of new Ward Clerks
Job Requirements
  • Successful completion of a college diploma, preferably in secretarial studies, from an accredited educational institution
  • 1 year of recent related work experience
  • Proficiency with Patient Care Systems
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Minimum 40 wpm keyboarding/data entry speed
  • Proven flexibility, initiative, organizational and problem solving/decision-making skills
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with all levels of staff, patients and their families, as well as a team member both intra and interdepartmentally
  • Skilled at setting priorities and handling multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and read using English in order to effectively perform essential requirements of this position
  • Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history
