URGENT- COOK (Casual) – Extendicare Tuxedo Villa

Candidates are invited to apply for the Casual Cook position to work at our Extendicare Tuxedo Villa facility, a 213-bed long-term care home, located in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Reporting to the Food Services Supervisor and following established policies, procedures and standards, the cook prepares and serves food for the residents which includes meals and desserts as well as cleans the production area and equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Reviews regular and therapeutic menus and sets up equipment and supplies for food preparation. Prepares breakfast and lunch food or supper food (depending on which shift) following standardized recipes and production sheets. Provides for prescribed diets, including variations in texture. Ensures meals are served on time, at appropriate temperatures and in portion-controlled quantities.
  • In the absence of the Food Services Supervisor, decides on menu changes as necessary and ensures that changes are recorded following department procedures.
  • Directs Dietary Aides in basic food preparation procedures and in serving activities at mealtimes. Arranges for replacement staff in the absence of the Food Services Supervisor.
  • Adheres to established departmental policies and procedures regarding quality assurance, fire, safety, environment, and infection control.
  • Maintains all required records such as menu changes, delivery receipts, temperature checks.
  • Cooperates with other departments to meet resident needs.
  • Monitors quality and quantity of food supplies ordered and proper operation of kitchen equipment and alerts Supervisor of problems.
  • Participates in department meetings and in-service education programs.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Food Services Supervisor.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of large quantity cooking methods and procedures.
  • One to two years of experience in large institutional quantity cooking.
  • Ability to work safely, following established safety practices and procedures.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English fluently.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to do moderate to heavy lifting.
  • Successful candidate must be available to work during the day, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
  • Current Food Handlers Certificate.
