Job Description

The Seabee Gold Operations is a Saskatchewan-based gold producer, engaged in the production, exploration and development of gold mineral reserves and mineral resources. Seabee Gold Operation is located 125 kilometers northeast of La Ronge, SK. Our Santoy Mine is located approximately 14 kilometers east of the Seabee Mill and is a 1000 tpd operation.

This position is a fly in fly out with pick up points in Saskatoon, Prince Albert & La Ronge. The work schedule will be 14 days on site, 14 days off site; 11-hour workdays.

Reporting to the Safety & Training Supervisors, this role is responsible for providing site safety onsite and training and new employee orientations for all site personnel. This position will involve collaboration with creating and maintaining training procedures and manuals. You will liaise with the Mine Operations crew to improve training and safety where possible and will be heavily involved in training and assessing all underground mobile operators and adhere to the health and safety standards as established by SGO.

Being an underground operation, managing a comprehensive mine rescue program is also a part of the duties. Setting up, participating and leading monthly mine rescue training is also an objective.

• Mentor and train SGO personnel as required
• Improve safety and training standards
• Adhere to all safety procedures and promote company standards
• Develop and prepare safety and training records
• Assess an employee’s training needs
• Training the workforce on all types of mechanized/mobile mining equipment, as well as non-mechanized equipment
• Coordinate training activities and maintain administrative functions
• Conducting theoretical training in a classroom environment and practical training at the worksite
• Support and facilitate the development, administration and maintenance of safety and training policies and procedures
• Support all Health and Safety Management Program activities
• Coordinate and conduct inspections of operations, ensuring strict compliance with company and regulatory H&S requirements, provide recommendations and follow up to make sure that non-compliance issues are corrected in a timely fashion
• Ensure WCB items have been addressed in accordance with applicable laws
• Input required data as directed by the Safety/Training Supervisors
• Facilitate risk assessments and incident investigations
• Participation in the site emergency response program, preferably at the instructor level.

Required Experience

The successful candidate will have minimum five years of industry experience and will be able to demonstrate the above requirements as well as good communication and problem-solving skills. The ability to work both independently and within a team in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment with the utmost professionalism is essential. A positive and proactive attitude towards safety is crucial.

As a member of the Safety & training team, Mine Rescue and Emergency Preparedness can be a large part of the activities. While not a defined minimum qualification, a current mine rescue or preferably a mine rescue instructor certificate will be a definite asset.

Duties will be conducted with strict adherence to SGO policies and procedures.

As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must possess a security screening document or equivalent document as defined by The Mines Regulations, 2018. The successful candidate will be required to maintain their security screening document or equivalent document throughout their employment at their own expense and will be required to provide confirmation or same and advise the employer of any changes to, revocation of or suspension of their security screening document during the term of their employment.
