Reporting to the Manager, Total Rewards, the Total Rewards Specialist is responsible for providing consultation, guidance, analysis and recommendations on total reward programs, processes, and services. This includes, but is not limited to, compensation, job evaluation, recognition and rewards, and benefits.The Total Rewards Specialist works in partnership with the Manager, Total Rewards to maintain a fair, equitable and competitive total rewards strategy and works alongside the Compensation Analyst to complete operational items, such as job evaluations, benchmarking, process improvements, etc.In addition to providing support across all divisions to address compensation, recognition and reward, and benefit needs, the position works closely with the Manager, Total Rewards to develop, coordinate, and implement strategic initiatives, processes, policies, and practices.
  • Act as a conduit within the department, and across the division, to ensure a connection exists across the total rewards offerings.
  • Partner across the People & Culture division to develop an understanding of employee needs.
  • Conduct and/or provides guidance in researching, evaluating, and developing recommendations regarding best practice.
  • Review opportunities to streamline processes and create efficiencies throughout the department.
  • Lead the analysis and completion of our annual survey participation, benchmarking, and data collection.
  • Engage with vendors to conduct surveys and obtain insights on broader total reward initiatives.
  • Conduct and/or provide guidance and direction related to job evaluation.
  • Provide advice and consultation on salary administration with the goal of providing consistent and equitable treatment across the corporation and increasing employee understanding of our practices and programs.
  • Lead education and engagement with leaders on our performance methodology and the annual performance review framework.
  • Responsible for the coordination and implementation of corporate-wide compensation-related activities, including general wage increases.
  • Engage with union representatives on complex compensation issues.
  • Regularly compily data and perform analysis to support ongoing attraction and retention.
  • Prepare clear, concise reports and/or presentations outlining findings and recommendations to be utilized for decision making at the leadership level.
  • Conduct comparative and cost analysis, including data collection, qualitative, and quantitative analysis.
  • Solicit regular feedback from stakeholders and incorporate into current and future enhancements.
  • Degree in a related field, with additional education in compensation and benefits.
  • Designation in compensation (i.e., Certified Compensation Professional or Compensation Certification) or currently enrolled in the program is a strong asset.
  • 6 years of progressive human resources experience, of which 4 years are directly related to compensation, benefits, rewards.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and interact successfully at various levels within the corporation and with external agencies.
  • Public speaking and facilitation skills to speak effectively and persuasively on matters of interest to employees and managers.
  • Strong written communication skills, with ability to develop clear, concise reports and recommendations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, complemented by a keen mathematical ability and an eye for detail.
  • Possess initiative and highly developed research skills.
  • Knowledge of project management techniques with ability to gather functional business process requirements, translate user requests into technical specifications, and document details needed for business requirements.
  • Establish responsible deadlines and personal work plans and manages time effectively.
