Position Summary:

Torch persons/laborer are responsible for day-to-day duties on site needed to complete work in a safe and timely fashion and maintain a clean worksite. This position must also adhere to our safety program and work as a contributing member of the site team.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all Secure health, safety policies, and procedures are followed.
  • Be cognizant of and adhere to any site-specific safety requirements.
  • Partake in all safety-related meetings including daily tailgates, risk assessment, etc.
  • Helping customers (ferrous or nonferrous) unload and loading material.
  • Working in NF shop (loading, unloading, sorting, cutting, packaging, labeling, and cleaning material).
  • Working in Ferrous, cutting and cleaning the steel, cleaning trailers, and yard sorting.
  • Buying material from customers using basic computer transactions.
  • Helping Ferrous dept. as required / cutting steel,
  • Spotting for trucks and equipment.
  • Operating and servicing small equipment.
  • Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment.
  • Clean, lubricate and fuel all equipment and general site housekeeping (mechanic shop, coffee shop, office, yard, and scale).
  • Cleaning trucks and equipment (using a pressure washer).
  • Various general labor and repetitive tasks.
  • Willing to perform physical work according to safety policies.
  • Carry out duties in a safe manner.
  • Other related duties as required.
  • Aptitude for running small equipment including but not limited to skid steers, forklift and loader
  • Must have an understanding of all power and small tools.
  • Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment.
  • Clean, lubricate and fuel all equipment and general site housekeeping.
  • Ensure safety fences/markings are all in place.
  • Notify supervisor and or repair shop of any required work to be done.

Qualifications:

  • Candidates should pass a pre-drug and alcohol test.
  • Candidates should have a valid driver’s license and vehicle.
  • 3-5 years’ experience working with a torch, preferred
  • Experience work in on demolitions preferred
  • Oil and gas industry experience would be an asset
  • Basic computer operation experiences an asset but not required (receiving and sending email, Microsoft Word, and Excel).
  • General laboring and or farm experience is an asset but not required.
  • Basic comprehension and ability to follow Secure Workplace Health and Safety requirements relevant to the assigned worksite, including but not limited to Secure’s “8 Life Saving Rules” and Secure’s “Hazard Assessment Process”.
  • Ability to complete safety documentation in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, shoveling, moving containers, and other heavy materials only up to 50 lbs.
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to persevere through difficult weather conditions, challenging worksite environments, and long demanding workdays.
  • Willingness to work away from home if necessary, moving from project to project as required.
  • Must understand all power and small tools.
  • Ability to manage weather and/or seasonal interruptions in work schedule.
  • Fit for work each day.
