Are you a mining expert looking to expand on your heavy equipment operating knowledge and leadership skills? In this role, you will be responsible for achieving our safety and production targets in accordance with prescribed daily plans, policies and procedures.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Five or more years of heavy equipment operating experience
  • Five or more years of leadership in a unionized mining environment
  • Mining engineers with practical field experience as a front-line leader will also be considered
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record
  • Alberta Mine Safety Association (AMSA) certification is required upon hire

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise work performed, provide mentorship, and manage performance, to a multi-skilled workforce within the context of the collective agreement
  • Ensure compliance with all workplace rules, procedures and occupational health and safety (OH&S) codes
  • Perform daily safety, productivity, and competency audits
  • Follow daily work priorities set by mine planning and management to execute the weekly plan to meet the required dig locations for the shovel fleet and sustain improvement initiatives
  • Monitor assigned work areas such as shovel pits, haul roads, placement areas, mine dewatering, mine power distribution, and contractor management to ensure resources are properly allocated to meet our goals
  • Work closely with shift trainers to ensure skill sets and training requirements are being met
  • Verify the completion of work assignments and investigate incidents and near misses with a view toward positive action through mentoring, training, or equipment setup
  • Support mine operations technical support groups (mine planning, survey, geotechnical, geology) as needed

Location and other Key Details:

  • You will work out of our Base Plant Mine in Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • The shift schedule is a six days on/six days off rotation (three days on, three nights on, six days off; 12-hour shifts)
  • This position is safety sensitive
  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory. Relocation support will be provided; we offer competitive housing assistance to eligible individuals
