Working Title: Systems Engineer
Reports to: Senior Manager, Seismology Solutions
Based in: Ottawa, ON (Hybrid)
Term: Full-time

Position
The Seismology Solutions team is looking for a Systems Engineer who is passionate about technology and looking to contribute towards the design and integration of customer solutions and bespoke customizations built on Nanometrics’ world class equipment and software. The ideal candidate should have experience in integrating, testing, and releasing systems in the context of mission critical deployments, particularly for electrical and/or electronic aspects. You will be expected to become an expert in the integration and use of our world leading products in the creation of complete customer solutions.
As a member of a multidisciplinary team, you will bring your expertise and experience to solving difficult problems with team members with other specializations. Supporting the Seismology Sales Team, this role will have direct interaction with customers in establishment of customer solutions. The working environment will be a mix between office work, lab work, and international working environments. This role will include travel as needed (approximately 15%).

Job Duties
  • Provide solutions support for Nanometrics existing accounts and relationships
  • Execute planning and design of product solutions for large scope projects
  • Provide systems engineering support in the design and build of prototype assets
  • Provide bespoke components and customizations to specific customer requirements
  • Work with management to clarify requirements and prioritize development features
  • Assist in driving continuous improvement to customer solutions and project design

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Science or related field
  • 3-5 years of experience in electrical or systems engineering, integration, design or product development
  • Experience in structured requirements development and validation
  • Working knowledge on the fundamentals of systems integration
  • Working knowledge of low power and remote power systems
  • Working knowledge of communications systems
  • Programming and analysis experience with various languages, including Python
  • Valid Canadian passport

Assets
  • Experience in Seismology, Geophysics or related field
  • Experience with customer procedure development
  • Experience with data analysis and presentation
  • Experience with integration of sensor systems
  • Experience with remote power systems including solar
  • Experience with embedded controller integration
  • Experience with the design and use of communication and telemetry systems
  • Knowledge of GPS systems
