At Sinai Health, we care, create possibilities and offer hope. We are looking for an experienced Supervisor, Environmental Services to support our Environmental Services department.

Job Outline:
The Environmental Services Supervisor is responsible for supervising day to day operations and the front line staff in the Environmental Services Department. The Supervisor provides direct leadership, guidance and support to a multi-functional team to ensure a high level of cleanliness, quality and timeliness of environmental service delivery to all customers. This position liaises with the clinical units on a regular basis.

Key areas of responsibilities include: participation in the recruitment process, performance management, payroll, scheduling, quality auditing, infection control, waste removal, pest control, routine and terminal cleaning, floor care, linen, laundry, uniforms and re-development transitions.

Education & Qualifications:
  • Ontario Hospital Associations’ Environmental Services Level I and Level ll courses successfully completed or in progress
  • Ontario Healthcare Housekeepers’ Association professional development courses such as Infection Control and Laundry for Healthcare Facilities successful completed or in progress an asset
  • A degree or diploma in Hospitality Management or in a related field from a recognized university or college
  • 3 years healthcare supervisory experience in a unionized setting required
  • Demonstrated ability to develop reporting, scheduling and presentation documentation
  • Strong project management experience required and an ability multi-task and prioritize are essential
  • Experience working with and/or supervision of Linen Staff is required
  • Experience working in a healthcare environment preferred
  • Experience in leading and supporting a multi-functional team and a demonstrated ability to provide clear instructions and to monitor work progress
  • Infection control cleaning, teaching and monitoring experience in a hospital environment preferred
  • Performs quality cleaning audits and follows-up accordingly
  • Experience in participating in the recruitment process, including conducting interviews, selecting candidates as well as coordinating orientation in conjunction with Human Resources
  • Experience fostering a positive work environment through the development and support of effective communication processes
  • Experience in monitoring staff performance by actively participating in formal performance reviews and engaging in staff development initiatives
  • Experience taking appropriate action to deal with investigations, progressive disciplines and performance management issues on a timely basis, and liaising with Human Resources as appropriate
  • A leader and advocate for recycling and greening initiatives
  • Experience authorizing vacation, education and other leave requests
  • Strong conflict management skills including the ability to handle difficult situations
  • Ability to effectively and positively adapt to change
  • Solid judgment, analysis and problem solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills, and a strong ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong customer service orientation and attention to detail are essential
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications at a basic level required, intermediate level preferred
  • Membership with the Ontario Health-care Housekeepers’ Association is preferred
  • Membership with the Canadian Association of Environmental Management is preferred
  • Flexibility in work hours is required
