Summer Research Assistant – Equipment Operator

Seeking a new and challenging opportunity to further enhance your career? Corteva Agriscience has an exciting opportunity for several temporary Research Assistants. The Research Assistant will work as an integral part of a team out of Saskatoon, SK that is committed to developing high yielding, disease resistant canola, corn and soybean varieties. Existing skillset in equipment is required, training will be provided to meet specific standards. These positions will run 4-8 months in duration, starting around May 2, 2022.

Position Overview

  • Assist with equipment preparation for field season activities
  • Ability to safely and effectively operate tractors, sprayers, planters
  • Ability to safely and effectively load and unload equipment on trailers
  • Ability to safely drive a truck with a loaded trailer
  • Pesticide handling, mixing and safe application knowledge is required
  • Equipment calibration experience is an asset
  • Experience with research field site preparation, seeding, spraying, plot maintenance, plot evaluation, harvest, and post-harvest land preparation for subsequent season plots
  • Identifying any pest, disease, or environmental problems relating to the canola, soybean and corn crops and be prepared to apply pesticides as required
  • Effectively communicate with land co-operators
  • Assist with harvest in large and small plot trials
  • Follow field sanitation expectations

Required Qualifications

  • Applicants must be completing an Undergrad Degree or Diploma in Agricultural Science or related field
  • Class 5 Drivers license or G endorsement preferred
  • Comfortable with pesticide applications
  • A fast learner, with a high aptitude for precision and accuracy
  • Must be highly motivated and well suited for work in both team-orientated and independent situations
  • Willingness to travel throughout Saskatchewan and work overtime hours as necessary
  • Must be safety orientated
  • Experience with field equipment is required
