The Opportunity::
McElhanney Ltd. is looking for an efficient, professional, and friendly individual to join our bridge in-plant quality assurance team as a Structural Steel Technician on an as-needed basis in the Lower Mainland. This is a part time or contract position, and, in this role, the incumbent will support a busy team of engineering and technical professionals by providing in-plant inspection services.

As the successful candidate you will have the opportunity to shadow and train under our current in-plant Quality Assurance Technician, who will be retiring this fall. Although workload varies depending on ongoing assignments at local fabrication plants, this role has been ~12 hours per week on average over the last year. This role is ideal for someone looking for part-time work or a semi-retired individual looking to remain engaged in the industry and/or supplement their retirement.

What You’ll Be Doing::
    • In-plant quality assurance of structural and miscellaneous steel bridge components at steel fabrication facilities in the Lower Mainland of BC
    • Liaise with McElhanney Victoria office personnel and provide quality assurance reporting of work progress at the fabrication facilities.

What You’ll Bring::
    • A minimum of 8 years’ experience in structural steel fabrication (experience with bridge fabrication would be beneficial)
    • CSA Standard W178.2 Welding Inspector certification (Preference will be given to Level II and Level III certification)
    • A technical understanding of structural engineering principles and knowledge of steel bridge fabrication would be an asset
    • Ability to work well as part of a team but also work independently to meet client and company deadlines
    • Familiarity with MS Word and Excel and be able to create and email reports.
    • A valid BC Driver’s License
