SIN Structures Inc., a division of Steelcon Fabrication Inc., in St. Catharines, Ontario is seeking a Structural Engineer to provide engineering services on large or several smaller projects/scopes. Covering structural steel design, provide analysis of structures & foundations for both front-end planning and the detailed engineering phase for multi-discipline projects. The Structural Engineer will participate in a wide range of projects covering structural steel analysis and design of various buildings, support structures and foundations. Activities also include structural steel modeling, dynamic analysis of structures & foundations and seismic evaluations for conceptual, preliminary and detailed engineering phases of the multi-discipline projects.

As a structural engineer, you will contribute to our team by:

• Planning and executing projects through all phases from initial feasibility and conceptual design through preliminary design/definition, detailed design, tender and construction for steel structures.
• Promoting compliance with all relevant engineering standards and internal procedures for all design activities
• Ensuring the project is constructed as per structural design, budget, quality, and schedule
• Maintaining structural engineering work procedures, specifications, and computer aided design programs
• Preparing engineering calculations and technical specifications
• Producing designs and shop drawings in conformance with Steelcon’s design tables, assembly instructions and other relevant documentation
• Performing risk, opportunity management, and forecasting
• Participate in project/ contract negotiations.
• Ensuring all shop drawings and other technical documentation adhere to all internal and relevant local and international safety standards as well as building regulations or codes
• Providing input to engineering, operating and capital cost estimates
• Preparing and/or reviewing project standard specifications and design criteria
• Participating in and contributing to design reviews
• Developing and overseeing overall structural project closeout, including document archival, maintenance and warranty manuals, deficiencies, and warranty work.

What you will bring to this role:

• Degree in civil/structural engineering from an accredited university or master’s degree in Structural Engineering.
• Registration as a professional engineer.
• 5+ years of structural engineering experience.
• In-depth knowledge of construction industry and company operations, including building materials, construction specifications, methods and procedures, safety, and quality management practices for more complex projects or scopes.
• Strong working knowledge of Project Management fundamentals.
• Proficiency with MS Office Suite and experience with structural finite element engineering design software.
• In-depth knowledge of project construction law and building codes, with the ability to leverage such knowledge.
• Strong planning, organizational, and time management skills with the ability to multitask
• Ability to collaborate with and influence project designers and engineers
• Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Demonstrates strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
• Demonstrated flexibility and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Awareness of Steelcon’s health & safety Policy and standards
