The Ministry of Forests has a mandate to manage specified Crown land and resources in a manner that embraces the economic, environmental and social goals of government. The Senior Engineering Technologist is focused on implementing engineering projects, which includes contract management, bridge, survey, resource roads, and road design to support the achievement of project and program objectives.

A skilled communicator with a collaborative approach, you establish strong working relationships with external stakeholders and Ministry staff within the Ministry of Forests and other BC government ministries. You are skilled in interpreting, developing and following process and have a good understanding of risk and risk management. While able to work independently, you are a team player providing support to other team members to achieve team goals. You have excellent interpersonal skills and possess the ability to work with diverse groups. In addition, you are well organized and can prioritize a demanding workload to ensure time is used effectively to achieve outcomes by deadline. JOB REQUIREMENTS:

To be considered for this position, your application mustclearly demonstratehow you meet the following (as noted above, lesser qualified applicants may be considered, but at a lower classification):

  • A degree or diploma in natural resource field. (i.e. forestry or forest engineering) and experience in road, bridge and major structures design, construction and/or maintenance. Preference may be given for 2 or more years of this experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
  • Registered or immediately eligible for registration with the Association of BC Forest Professionals (ABCFP) as a Registered Forest Technologist (RFT). Note: immediately eligible is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to the ABCFP. Confirmation of registration will be required before an offer of employment can be made.
  • Experience providing direction to contracted resources.


PROVISOS

  • Must have a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence, or equivalent.
  • Willing and able to conduct field work which may include travel by vehicle (ATV/UTV/Helicopter) and/or outdoor work in all weather conditions. Some overnight travel will be required, which may include staying in accommodations or camps.
  • A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.

Professional Designation: YES - Please provide your registration number in your application. You must be registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Registered Forest Technologist (RFT) with the Association of BC Forest Professionals (ABCFP). Note: immediately eligible is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to the ABCFP. Confirmation of registration/eligibility will be required before an offer of employment can be made.
