SR MANAGER, PROCESS DEVELOPMENT

Emergent BioSolutions is currently seeking a Sr Manager, Process Development for our Winnipeg location. The successful candidate will have a degree in a scientific discipline with a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a minimum of 3 years in a supervisory role. Must have expert knowledge of scientific principles and concepts in plasma protein, cell culture, and purification of protein therapeutics and the ability to address problems that are highly varied, complex and often non-recurring, solved by novel and creative solutions. In addition, this individual will possess a strong work ethic and a commitment to excellence and innovation.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Senior Manager, Process Development is responsible for the advancement of platforms and corporate initiatives, combined with the initiation of new technologies, technology enhancements and advancement of target products. The Senior Manager is responsible for managing and leading the development team throughout all stages of development, working with cross-functional teams for completion of goals.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Strategic operational planning, costing and prioritization of initiatives for development and optimization of novel, scalable, and robust processes for therapeutic proteins that lead to new or improved products and/or processes, throughout the full product and process lifecycle, with establishment of effective timelines derived to achieve critical go-no-go decisions. Resource allocation and monitoring including consideration of budget and capacity, aligned with priorities and achievement of goals.
• Integration of process initiatives with cross-functional stakeholders, with effective communication with leaders, peers, team members and external organizations where applicable.
• Hiring, training, and providing leadership to team members, with a focus on ensuring a strong, engaged and continually developing team, coaching direct reports to achieve goals based on corporate objectives and results by optimizing resources and building team effectiveness. Regularly communicate corporate mission/values, portray the values, recognize staff exhibiting the values and hold people accountable if values aren’t exhibited.
• Track and report status on progress against plan and communicate with team members and leaders to ensure commitments are met in a timely and high-quality manner
• Continuous assessment of Functionality (systems) and Infrastructure (organization alignment) ensuring both are optimally designed, implemented and performing for continuing individual, team, and organizational success.
• Work cross-functionally with SMEs in investigations supporting commercial manufacturing. Management review including the monitoring, analysis of data, conclusions, and timely action to ensure that process outcomes are achieved or deviations are identified and informed by comprehensive experimental evidence.
• Ensure technology transfer of developed processes (internal and external customers) is executed in a complete and scientifically valid and robust manner
• Create and manage annual operating and capital budgets for the department, including approval of purchase requisitions
• Represent EBS and give presentations at major scientific conferences or symposiums

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

• Degree in a scientific discipline (Chemical or Biochemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or related field), with a minimum of 10 years of related experience, with a minimum of 3 years in a supervisory role
• Expert knowledge of scientific principles and concepts in plasma protein, cell culture, purification of protein therapeutics
• Behaviors and attitudes in compliance with Emergent’s policies and culture, attributes of a mature leader and supervisor, and professional ethical standards
• Experience with the direct management and mentoring of personnel and excellent communication skills to interact with all levels of the organization
• Expert ability to address problems that are highly varied, complex and often non-recurring, solved by novel and creative solutions
• Excellent knowledge of ICH guidelines and QbD principles, cGMP’s and regulatory requirements for therapeutic biologics
• Participation in the creation of a Biological License Application (BLA)
