Position: Software Developer II
Site: MaRS Centre, Toronto

Reports To: Associate Director, PanCuRx TRI
Salary: Commensurate with level of experience
Hours: 35 hours/week
Status: Full-time, Permanent
The Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR) is seeking a Software Developer II to join the PanCuRx team at OICR.

The PanCuRx Program is a translational research initiative that aims to significantly improve the lives of patients with pancreatic adenocarcinoma by generating new knowledge about genetic and biologic subsets of disease, mechanisms of tumorigenesis, and unique treatment options. We are generating multiple independent genomic analyses including next-generation whole genome and whole transcriptome sequencing. Rich clinical annotation is also available for these samples, and analyses are performed on cutting-edge IT infrastructure including a multi-petabyte storage system and 6,500-core compute cluster.
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Process public and in-house genomic, imaging, and clinical datasets for analysis;
  • Develop and evaluate machine learning models;
  • Deploy machine learning models prospectively;
  • Work with software development team to productionize methods;
  • Represent the team and the institute at project meetings, with other collaborators and at international scientific conferences; and
  • Contribute to the broader goals of the team in developing resources for the scientific community.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Skill and knowledge acquired through completion of university or equivalent (Bachelor’s Degree);
  • 2-4 years of professional experience in software development;
  • Demonstrable hands-on expertise in at least one programming/scripting language (i.e. Python);
  • Experience in data handling, file manipulation;
  • Experience with the development of machine learning models;
  • Experience working on computing clusters and using GPUs
  • Ability to work accurately and quickly to meet deadlines;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; and
  • Good communication skills (both verbal and presentational).

It is an advantage if you have:

  • Experience in computer vision and natural language processing; and
  • Experience in genomic or clinical data analysis.
