Site Lead, 1JustCity

Full-time Permanent

40 hours per week

Anticipated start date:As soon as possible

Salary:Starting wage commensurate with experience

Shift: 8:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. with flexibility to work evenings or weekends as required.

Supervises: Volunteers, Program Support Staff, Summer Students, Practicum Students, Interns.

Reports to: Executive Director

About 1JustCity

1JustCity operates drop-in sites in three vulnerable Winnipeg neighborhoods: the Osborne Village, Pimicikamak Wellness Centre, and West Broadway. In the winter months, we also operate an Emergency Overnight Warming Shelter called Just a Warm Sleep.

We provide services to over 1200 unique individuals weekly and work with people living in poverty; experiencing homelessness or precarious housing, mental health issues and/or addiction, social isolation, oppression due to race or gender identity, and more.1JustCity takes a non-judgemental, trauma-informed approach to service delivery.

Responsibilities:

The Site-Lead is a senior position at 1JustCity. The Site Lead is responsible to the Executive Director and for oversight of the site’s daily operations, developing strong community partnerships, providing support and oversight to staff, volunteers and students. The Site Lead coordinates the program, events and resources that provide our guests with a safe, inclusive, and supportive welcoming community. The Site-Lead implements operational policies, procedures, as well as provides leadership to other team members.

Human Resources:

  • Support the Executive Director with recruitment, orientation, and training of staff, and in determining appropriate staffing requirements for programs and services.
  • Recruit, screen, and onboard volunteers, ensuring all required shifts are filled and daily tasks are assigned and completed. Provide ongoing feedback to volunteers, and provide training opportunities to volunteers
  • Coordinate staff, volunteers, and activities in the drop-in.
  • Model and facilitate respectful communication among the staff, volunteers and participants, respond to escalating situations when needed, ensure health and safety protocols are followed, and ensure the drop-in space operates in a safe, respectful, and organized way.
  • Ensure items that need to be repaired or replaced are attended to, and that physical site inside and out is maintained to the highest standard of cleanliness.
  • Manage volunteer recruitment, on-boarding, orientation, training, and assignment of tasks.
  • Participate in the leadership team and help to coordinate volunteer appreciation, guest celebrations, fundraisers, and other events.
  • Hold regular team meetings and participate in leadership and staff meetings. Provide regular site updates and program-specific matters. Attend leadership meetings, and any committees assigned. Participate in external meetings representing 1JustCity, as assigned.
  • Ensure staff attendance is shared in a timely manner with the Executive Director and before payroll dates to the Finance Administrator. Observe organizational policy and all current legislation and regulations.
  • Review organizational policy with employees on a regular basis, and refer to policy for direction.
  • Supervise program and support staff and provide formal and informal feedback, as outlined in our policies. Ensure staff and volunteers understand their roles and responsibilities, and receive feedback, mentoring, encouragement, and support.
  • Ensure staff and volunteers are kept apprised of 1JustCity happenings and events.

Operation of Drop-in:

  • Ensure that scheduling requirements are consistently met, delegate tasks and apply resources to accomplish tasks, liaising with the community and partner organizations, to manage and enhance service delivery.
  • Seek out and apply for grants with approval of the Executive Director. Look for possibilities to fund multiple sites.
  • Collect and provide data required for grants, and ensure objectives required by funders/grantors are implemented. Build and coordinate relationships within the community to provide on-site programs, activities, donations, and/or monetary support.
  • Oversee, monitor, and assess the day-to-day operation of the drop-in, overseeing the delivery and coordination of programs.
  • Coordinate with other site leads regarding program services for guests across all sites.Ensure the facility and services adequately meet the physical, social, spiritual, and cultural needs of the guests and that everyone’s health, safety, comfort and well-being is protected. Ensure the physical site is well maintained and meets health as well as cleanliness standards throughout.
  • Be aware of the attendance trends (GST, mid-month cheques, child care benefit, end of month cheques, CPP etc.). Based on historical data, provide volunteers with guidance as to how many guests to prepare for each day.
  • Distribute food to guests in a responsible and sustainable manner.
  • Identify and mitigate organizational risk, foster opportunities to improve service.
  • Work with volunteers and staff to assist guests in becoming connected to a community. Foster connections between guests to help them feel they belong and are included in their community.
  • Provide supervision, oversight, direction and support during drop-in, and program hours.

Administrative:

  • Manage and submit budgets and expenses.
  • Contribute to fundraising events and donor care.
  • Write and present reports/talks about our services.
  • Participate in volunteer recruitment events within the community.
  • Ensure site statistics and demographics are tracked for financial reporting, including volunteer hours, and other data as required.
  • Submit weekly reports to the Executive Director.
  • Participate in strategic and other planning and implement and evaluate change.
  • Participate in staff development and external meetings to ensure best practices to implement in the drop-in.
  • Develop and implement organizational priorities and plans, appropriately allocate resources, and ensure the execution of strategic initiatives in collaboration with the Executive Director and leadership team.
  • Ensure the secure and proper storage and management of all organizational, client, personnel, donor and volunteers files, and that privacy and confidentiality is maintained.
  • Lead site specific team meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Must possess excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must have a university degree or a diploma in a relevant field or a suitable combination of experience and education.
  • A minimum of three (2) years of experience managing staff, leading projects or in a management role in a non-profit organization.
  • Knowledge and a good understanding of challenges faced by vulnerable populations.
  • Must demonstrate a strong professional manner in dealing with participants, staff, volunteers and donors, and the public while being open, friendly, approachable, accepting and understanding.
  • Adaptable with the ability to work across multiple initiatives and projects at the same time
  • Ability to provide strategic advice on issues concerning the community and organization; political acuity and the knowledge of how to navigate policy.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills with an ability to engage staff and volunteers
  • Experience working or volunteering in a non-profit environment.
  • Able to work evenings and weekends as required.
  • Experience in working with people from diverse backgrounds, with multiple barriers to program inclusion, and working with lived experience (trauma, violence, etc.).
  • Skilled in the use of Google Workspace; able to operate office equipment.
  • Valid Manitoba Class 4 driver’s license and daily access to a vehicle.
  • Experience working collaboratively with community organizations and with vulnerable populations.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal skills and interest in engaging with community in an approachable, nonjudgmental way, taking a trauma-informed and harm reduction approach
  • Administrative skills and computer literacy, including writing, Microsoft Office, internet, data entry.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a cross-cultural context with diverse populations.
  • Flexibility and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and unpredictable environment, adjusting to emerging and emergent needs.
  • Ability to speak English required, additional languages an asset.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, punctuality and reliability a requirement.

Assets:

  • Experience in grant writing or fundraising
  • Food Handler Certificate an asset.
  • NVCI, ASIST, CPR First Aid, Mental Health First Aid
