Do you have strong stakeholder relationship management skills and are looking for an opportunity to monitor and advise on issues affecting Ontario’s energy sector? This role in the LDC Outreach and Network Branch is an exciting opportunity to undertake consultations and contribute to policy development, analysis and implementation of initiatives related to the electricity system in the Province, including a focus on issues affecting Local Distribution Companies (LDCs).

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:
  • Provide advice, expertise and briefings to senior management on policy development and strategic energy sector issues
  • Identify social, economic, physical and environmental implications for the policy environment and track industry concerns and interests
  • Research and analyzes current and emerging policy issues related to Ontario’s LDCs and electricity transmission and distribution
  • Identify key issues and propose options and recommendations to address and resolve
  • Coordinate and undertake policy initiatives and projects from conception to completion
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary, intra/inter-ministerial project teams and build working relationships with key energy stakeholders, other ministries, governments and jurisdictions
  • Prepare a range of written materials, including responses to ministry correspondence and other inquiries from the public


How do I qualify?

Policy Development and Industry Knowledge

  • You know theories principles, practices, techniques and methodologies of public policy in order to lead policy development and provide advice
  • You have knowledge of broad economic, environmental, legal, and political issues underlying policy development in the energy sector, including multi-jurisdictional issues and relationships, industry concerns and priorities
  • You can interpret and apply legislative and regulatory frameworks related to the energy sector
  • You understand policies and legislation and their impact on the Indigenous communities


Research, Analytical and Issues Management Skills

  • You have research skills to undertake research projects and support policy development
  • You can interpret research results and develop recommendations
  • You can research, investigate and assess information and complex issues


Project Management Skills

  • You have project management experience to lead projects
  • You can provide project leadership and technical guidance to team members


Interpersonal and Communication Skills

  • You have consultation, persuasion and negotiation skills to develop consensus and support for strategic ministry policy and program initiatives and gain input from key stakeholders
  • You have networking and relationship management skills to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • You can use advisory and interpersonal skills to work with stakeholders, resolve issues and provide advice, including partners within the Indigenous community
  • You can prepare and present outreach initiatives, communication strategies and brief management
  • You can draft presentations and reports
