Senior Mechanical Designer – St-John’s


Looking to take the next step in your career? Hatch is currently seeking a highly motivated Senior Mechanical Designer to join our Project Delivery Group (PDG) in St-John’s.

The PDG group helps our clients achieve their business objectives through a range of strong technical skills. We deliver world-class projects through the skills of our people, our methodologies, our governance and our systems. Our engineering, project management and construction disciplines ensure safe, efficient and sustainable project execution across the mining and metals, infrastructure and energy sectors.

We manage the entire lifecycle of our clients’ projects, from conceptual design to construction and operation of assets, while achieving efficiencies. The Mechanical Designer provides support to engineering teams and is primarily responsible for CAD activities. He/she applies problem solving skills to technical problems related to the practice. The Designer implements and defines a plan to meet project requirements.


The desired candidate will:

Model mechanical equipment and piping in a 3D environment and produce 2D drawings;

Create equipment layouts in space;

Use vendor data, drawings and information to develop and verify the model.

Coordinate with other designers and engineers;

Perform clash detection of models with other discipline models.

Perform on-site surveys when required;

Support the development of standards on projects;

Participate in the resolution of technical problems;

Participate in the training of younger employees.


Profile required:

8+ years of design experience;

Engineering diploma (or equivalent);

Experience in consulting engineering is an asset;

Proficient in the use of MicroStation is an asset;

Multidisciplinary knowledge is an asset (piping, structural, architecture, etc.);

Knowledge of engineering management systems is an asset;

Strong technical experience;

Strong ability to delegate and manage the successful outcome of work performed by others;

Well-developed English communication skills;

Ability to work in a team environment;

Self-starter;

Ability to manage priorities;

Willingness to learn.
