Nch’kaỷ Development Corporation (NDC) was established in 2018 as the economic development arm of the Squamish Nation – Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw. Nch’kaỷ’s mandate is to develop, manage and own the active businesses of the Nation and was created to allow for the separation of business and politics within the Squamish Nation. Our mission is to generate wealth and create prosperity from economic opportunities for current and future generations of the Squamish Nation. This role is offered to members first and the broader community if an appropriate application is unavailable. This position will mainly work out of Nch’kaỷ Head Office.

Position Status

This is a Permanent Full-time position.

Scope of the Position

The primary role of the Senior Financial Planning Analyst is to analyze Nch’Kay’s financial situation, identify gaps and create an action plan to support organizational objectives. The Senior Financial Planning Analyst is responsible for leveraging financial data and understanding to deliver strategic planning strategies. In charge of budgeting, forecasting, analyzing financial information, and reporting. The Senior Financial Planning Analyst will assist the Finance Director by providing preliminary documentation to allow the department to operate confidently and make proactive decisions that will benefit Nch’Kay’s well-being. A financial designation and proven financial planning analysis skills are necessary for this position.

Duties, Responsibilities, Authority, and Accountabilities

  • Manages financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Creates variance analysis reports and financial models.
  • Provides financial expertise on major projects and initiatives in support of Nch’Kay’s strategic goals.
  • Forecasts different scenarios and ways to deal with each potential outcome.
  • Leads real-time financial performance monitoring.
  • Escalates any financial issues to management.
  • Completes market research and comparable company analysis.
  • Recommends strategies for increasing financial performance.
  • Presents detailed monthly financial reports to managers.
  • Uses popular financial planning and analysis software.
  • Collaborates with senior members of the accounting and finance teams.
  • Consolidate and analyze financial data (budgets, income statement forecasts etc.) considering company’s goals and financial standing.
  • Provide creative alternatives and recommendations to reduce costs and improve financial performance.
  • Consult with management to guide and influence long term and strategic decision making within the broadest scope.
  • Drive process improvement and policy development initiatives that impact the function.
  • Generates quarterly and annual Council level reports and preliminary insights.
  • Provides analysis of results to budgets and forecasts, working with other members of the Finance department to produce reports as required.
  • In collaboration with the Finance Director, develops actionable management reporting to provide insights into performance, variances, drivers, and key underlying trends.

Position Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in business, economics, finance, accounting, or a related major or equivalent professional experience is required.
  • CPA or certified financial analysts (CFA) are preferred.
  • Must have at least 3 years of financial planning experience.
  • Prior financial planning and strategizing experience.
  • Understanding of database maintenance and design.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis.
  • Ability to perform research and compile reports.
  • Ability to track and plan budgets.
  • Experience forecasting and analyzing data.
  • Demonstrates excellent financial and quantitative skills.
  • Communicates effectively and has strong presentation skills.
  • Learns quickly and has strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Good organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong team player with solid communication skills.
  • High levels of integrity and ability to handle confidential information.
  • Ability to work independently within established guidelines and procedures and as a member of a team.
  • Willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
  • Strong multi-tasking and organization skills.
  • Ability to set and manage priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Strong people skills and the ability to interact with colleagues and senior management to maintain quality.
  • Proficient in MS Office software (Excel, Word, and Outlook).
  • Experience working with First Nations is considered an asset.
  • Providing three (3) business references is an asset. Valid references must be a direct supervisor who is familiar with the applicant’s work.
