Your role

Reporting to the Executive Director, Corporate Finance, this position is charged with leading the Corporation’s consolidated forecasting & analysis, budgeting and internal reporting processes. The role has significant responsibility for the management, monitoring and communication of the Corporation’s financial performance. In addition, this role leads the financial planning and analysis team supporting non-media business areas. The role works closely with senior management, media Finance leadership, and other key functions including Treasury, Risk Management, and Controllership.

The position is responsible for leading and developing a team of 9 employees, including 2 direct reports. In addition to the above, this role is expected to make a significant contribution to the transformation agenda of Finance and the execution of business strategy through direct involvement, stakeholder engagement, and participation on various committees.


Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for leading the annual budgeting process, including the development and communication of business planning requirements, and the consolidation and balancing of operating and working capital resources across all business components.
  • Supports senior management in addressing financial pressures and funding priorities. Makes recommendations to senior management pertaining to the appropriate allocation of corporate contingencies and reserves.
  • Ensures the allocation of resources does not exceed availability from government and various revenue sources, and simultaneously ensures available resources are deployed efficiently across the business to support strategic priorities.
  • Leads the consolidated budgetary monitoring and forecasting process. This includes managing monthly and quarterly reviews of business results, financial position and forecasts against budget and prior periods.
  • Identifies and communicates key variances and business trends to support timely management of the Corporation’s financial resources.
  • Delivers consolidated internal reports and analysis of financial results and position to senior executives and the Board of Directors. Presents to leadership teams and ensures concise, accurate and timely communication of financial information.
  • Develops and communicates contemporary budgeting, forecasting and financial monitoring practices. Provides recommendations and advice to finance leaders regarding budgetary guidelines and policies. Drives system-based transformation of process.
  • Participates in the annual target setting process for KPIs including routine tracking and reporting of progress to internal & external stakeholders.
  • Provides input and advice to support developing the annual Corporate Plan, external Quarterly and Annual Financial Reports & Risk Reports.
  • Lead team and participate as required in the achievement of various finance objectives (including approval of key contracts, execution and financial and signing authorities, maintenance of reporting systems, Access to Information requests, journal entry approvals).
  • Develops and maintains other key financial documents to support government relations, the President’s office, regulatory reporting and other ad-hoc initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance and implementation of financial accounting policies within non-media business areas.
  • Identifies and presents recommendations for operational improvements, through the participation in various initiatives to support the transformation and modernization of financial processes.

We are looking for a candidate with the following:
  • Professional accounting designation such as CPA (CA, CMA, CGA) or US CPA.
  • At least ten years’ experience in large financial management environment with broadcasting industry experience.
  • Ability and skills to make recommendations and provide analytical insight and interpretation of complex financial data to senior management in a clear and concise manner.
  • At least 5 years of experience managing a team.
  • Superior Excel skills and experience working with SAP/BW and Cognos TM1 is an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to negotiate with managers to meet both their needs and management accounting objectives. Requires a highly developed sense of client service, enabling the incumbent to listen to clients and correctly interpret each department’s particular needs. The job requires the ability to guide and direct a team of individuals at various levels.
  • Bilingualism, written and oral in both English and French.
  • Ability to communicate and interact with employees, business managers and management of several departments, including Corporate Finance departments in order to coordinate various activities.
  • Good leadership qualities and be capable of working with various levels of management and in situations either as a team leader or team member.
  • Ability to deal with numerous, sometimes conflicting priorities under pressure in order to meet deadlines and meet multiple urgent demands within tight timeframes. Analytical mind, good judgment and great flexibility for work schedules, to serve diversified clientele and support and deliver change.
