GeoSpectrum Technologies Inc., (GTI) specializes in underwater acoustic transducers and systems and has been recognized as a leading provider of specialized surveillance software for a variety of applications including military sonar (multistatic-active, passive, mine hunting), marine mammal monitoring, and ocean observation. GTI’s ability to provide integrated, end-to-end sonar systems and winch and handling systems sets us apart from the rest.

We are currently seeking a Senior Buyer responsible for purchasing and planning functions directly associated with the company’s demand for materials and subcontract services. The candidate manages a Procurement Team and supports Operations to meet the needs of the business efficiently.

GTI is in a rapid growth phase, so leading continuous improvement initiatives in software tools and efficiency is a significant part of this role. The candidate will be responsible for building and maintaining vendor relationships, the timely planning and scheduling of production requirements, and inventory control utilizing best industry practices. The candidate will also ensure business continuity by maintaining a reliable supply chain and negotiating procurement agreements.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the procurement team, including mentorship, coordinate training, and support continued growth of the team
  • Maintain oversight of all GTI procurement activities
  • Lead continuous improvements to the procurement processes and tools, including ERP/MRP systems, to reduce the total cost acquisition, improve service levels, and reduce/recover the cost-of-poor-quality
  • Interfaces with inventory, manufacturing, and other operational departments to support business-wide continuous improvement initiatives
  • Negotiate for major capital purchases and long-term contracts, such as supply agreements with vendors and improve supply terms
  • Source and evaluate potential suppliers by assessing production capabilities, lead times, quality and fit
  • Manage relationships with vendors to ensure quality standards are met and maintained
  • Identify cost saving opportunities and vendor risks and making recommendations on what opportunities to pursue

Qualifications

Experience & Education:

  • Undergraduate degree and 5-7 years’ experience in purchasing, supplier negotiations, and supply chain management in a complex and dynamic technical environment
  • Preference given to candidates pursuing or holding the Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) designation
  • Experience with team leadership and/or supervisory experience

Competencies:

  • Strong communication skills in English and the ability to work collaboratively with a wide variety of personalities
  • Strong skill level using and developing Sage or a similar system for a wide variety of tasks such as material planning, safety stock, min/max, long-term agreement tracking, financial tracking and supply chain management, and company wide KPI’s
  • Strong leadership skills and willingness to grow and lead a team in material management and supply chain
  • Strong time management skills and ability to multi-task and shift priorities in a very demanding environment while providing a high level of accuracy and detail
  • Energetic and engaged with the ability to stay on top of multiple projects
  • Easily embrace and encourage change in technologies and processes
  • Computer and technologically savvy
  • Critical thinker and strategic problem solver
