General Accountability And Summary

Reporting to the Regional Manager, Human Resources, the Senior Advisor, Compensation & Benefits is responsible for planning, development, implementation and administration of new and existing total compensation programs for British Columbia (BC) sites. Collaborating with HR business partners (HRBP), payroll, BC leaders, corporate office and vendors as needed, this role will conduct market research, internal analysis and provide consultative advice to the BC sites to ensure employee total compensation and company practices are competitive and align to organizational goals to attract and retain top talent.

The Senior Advisor, Compensation & Benefits will also manage the benefit programs, disability management, ensure equity programs are properly applied to appropriate roles and manage the annual compensation, incentive, and performance management programs.

Compensation

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Bring subject matter expertise (SME) in the area of total compensation to lead, develop, implement and administer robust and competitive programs, benchmarking tools and processes which are aligned with the global Centerra business strategy, local operations strategy and company compensation philosophy.
  • Provide senior consultative expertise in compensation management and administration, incentive programs, job evaluation programs and the integration of related legislated requirements in the respective BC regions. Interface with regional experts as necessary to ensure comprehensive considerations.
  • Maintain global compensation framework/scale (with BC specific salary/hourly bands, allowances etc.) including integrity of role classification by job function and job discipline, career band and career level.
  • Partners with external vendors, professional associations and networks to conduct in-depth and relevant market data/trend analysis to ensure competitiveness of total compensation programs and the ability to attract talent into the organization.
  • Manage compensation & benefits benchmarking through survey participation (submission and analysis) and gathers feedback from HRBPs for continuous improvement.
  • Manages performance management process and annual compensation cycle to ensure it is successfully executed, salary and bonus/incentive administration, coordinating to ensure alignment with site plan objectives and corporate recommendations.
  • Develop and oversee the Job Evaluation process to support effective market data comparison, salary/pay administration practices and internal pay equity compliance, as required.
  • Make recommendations and advise stakeholders relative to Job Description development to ensure the effectiveness of Job Evaluation and other relevant business needs.
  • Provide input on compensation for new employee and promotions based on compensation framework and philosophy.
  • Participate in setting policies and developing programs in alignment with corporate policies.
  • Supports implementation, administration and optimization of the HRIS (soon to be implemented) and assist department teams with implementation and training as necessary.
  • Identify and execute on process improvements for compensation & benefits workflows.
  • Coordinate and work closely with Finance on staffing plans, forecasts and other data needs or projects related to compensation.
  • Leads implementation and change management, including communication relative to new program and/or initiatives.
  • Provides training, guidance and education to support BC HRBP and BC operations and department leaders and employees.
  • Analyzing HR metrics and HR reporting to guide decision-making around total compensation and benefits.
  • Lead and manage special projects as required.

  • Manage the annual renewal process.
  • Monitor industry trends to identify and recommend opportunities for cost savings.
  • Support the day-to-day operation of benefit programs working with external broker/providers, to ensure programs are administered efficiently and effectively and employees receive a high quality experience with our plans.
  • Work with vendors to set up and maintain up to date benefit information including contact details, processes for new employees ensuring most updated versions are available.
Skills And Competencies

  • Able to work with highly confidential information with professionalism and tact.
  • Highly organized and able to ensure data integrity while coordinating information from multiple sources.
  • High-level proficiency with HRIS, Microsoft Office, and Google Suite; highly proficient with pivot tables, vlookups, complex formulas, and managing large data sets for analytics.
  • Demonstrated experience with an HRIS system (SAP or Oracle).
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written).
  • Culturally sensitive to deal with diverse group of employees.
Experience, Qualifications & Education
  • A relevant university degree plus 5-10 years of progressively responsible experience – OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must include compensation experience as well as HR generalist experience preferably in the Natural Resources industry
  • CPP, CHRP and/or Certified Compensation Professional designations preferred
