Senior Actuary Manager - Rates

Position Highlights

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Actuary Manager within our Pricing team. Reporting to the Chief Actuary, this

position will lead two teams that will be responsible for ICBC’s overall rate changes and delivering strategic insights for the

pricing department. This role includes support for our annual Basic Revenue Requirements Application as well as delivering key

insurance insights to leadership. We are looking for a people leader who has experience managing and motivating a team of

quantitative analytical professionals. The Senior Manager should be comfortable working with excel, and familiar with modelling

languages & programs such as SAS, Emblem, or Radar.

Specific accountabilities include:
  • Managing a staff of two managers that have four to five actuarial students (or statistical analysts) each
  • Explore, develop, and implement new innovative pricing enhancements to current structure
  • Lead actuarial analysis and write-up for the Basic rate regulatory filing, ensuring the data validation, reconciliation, modelling
and reporting are consistent with accepted actuarial practice and correctly applied

  • Prepares quarterly Basic and Optional rate changes, including future risks, and prepares and presents results to chief actuary
and executives, leads the preparation of material to be presented to ICBC’s Board of Directors

  • Monitor the company’s insurance portfolio relating to changes in mix of business, retention, current/prospective profitability,
drivers of loss trends, etc. and report to executives as necessary

  • Lead performance of direct reports inclusive of providing professional and technical guidance, ensure documentation and peer
review procedures are in place and provides regular performance reviews

  • Working collaboratively and sharing resources with other team managers to ensure the commitments of the department are
met.

Position Requirements

The successful candidate will have several years of related experience and a strong knowledge of actuarial pricing and

practices. Ability to create a collaborative and positive work environment, build and maintain strong and effective relationships,

and effect change from a position of influence are key work attributes for this position. A proven track record of success in

coaching and mentorship is required. Experience with automobile insurance or other P&C background is required.

Additional requirements include:
  • Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS), or equivalent
  • At least 12 years of relevant experience, including 7+ years of coaching/supervising a team
  • Superior communication and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate with all levels of leadership at the right level for
the audience

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to understand context and its impact on all issues, identify key
areas requiring action and successfully execute strategies for resolution

  • Willingness to act as a change agent for the organization, demonstrating courage and integrity
  • Experience managing and coaching actuarial professionals.
  • Post secondary degree in either Actuarial sciences, mathematics or statistics.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Compensation

The salary range for this position is $155k to $175k, depending upon experience.

If required, relocation assistance will be discussed.
