Job Purpose:To help Manufacturers and Processors in Newfoundland and Labrador work safe, go home safe, everyday.

Salary Range

$65K to $75K based on qualifications and experience.

General Accountability

The Safety Specialist, Program Supervisor is accountable for providing expert knowledge to employers and workers on effective health and safety management systems.

Key Accountabilities, Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervision of Made Safe NL Safety Advisors in their development and deployment of the Made Safe NL annual plan.
  • Works closely with Executive Director and Operations Manager to continuously evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of Made Safe NL’s annual plan.
  • Works independently and creates strong relationships to deploy safety system solutions while exercising professional judgment.
  • Supports the Executive Director with the promotion of the Made Safe Program.
  • Develops and execute project plans based on recognized health and safety priorities, strategic goals, and operational requirements.
  • Develops and deliver customized educational programs, workshops, and webinars for high-risk operations to enhance worker protection.
  • Conducts and oversees occupational health and safety diagnostics and evaluation of health and safety

programs in complex work environments and makes recommendations for improvement to employer

programs, and effectively supports the Safety Advisors in doing the same.

  • Conducts other duties as requested by the Executive Director.
  • 6 months probation review.

Environment Location:

  • Hybrid model of in-office or on-location.

Requirements:

  • Valid Class 5 vehicle driver’s license.
  • Personal vehicle is expected to be used for work travel with competitive mileage reimbursement.

Travel:

  • Travel required across Newfoundland and Labrador.

Position Type:

  • Full-time, permanent

Hours of Work:

  • Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, with flexibility.

Vacation:

  • 3 weeks per year

Education, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Diploma or degree from an approved College or University with a concentration in occupational health and safety management
  • 5+ years of safety supervision and program planning.
  • Previous experience in manufacturing environments as an asset
  • Adult learning/corporate training education, certification and experience an asset.
  • Safety designation CRSP or CRST is considered an asset.

Requirements: Additional Competencies:

  • MS Office, including specifically PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Communication - verbal and written.

The Made Safe NL Manufacturing, and Processing Safety Sector Council (Made Safe NL) is operated by Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters Newfoundland andLabrador Division (CME NL) in collaboration and partnership with WorkplaceNL, with advice, input, and feedback from both the Made Safe NL Council and Sub-Committee for Fish Processing. WorkplaceNL provided funding for Made Safe NL to work with manufacturers and fish processors in 2019 to promote healthy, safe, and productive work environments.This industry-led group provides input, direction, and guidance to address workplace injuries, illness and fatalities in the manufacturing and processing sector.

Made Safe NL brings employers and workers together to identify and mitigate industry-specific risks with the goal of building and improving safety programs and systems in workplaces to protect workers.
