Job Summary
Reporting to the TCA Associate Scientific Director, the Research Programs Manager will manage the development, implementation, operationalization, promotion, ongoing assessment, and reporting on research programs within the Transforming Climate Action initiative, such as Large Research Projects, Opportunities Fund, Seed Fund, and Indigenous-led Research projects, and other programs or projects as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the administration of TCA research programs across the 4 partner institutions, including the application, communication, review, and award processes, employing applicable governance procedures.
  • Develop research programs’ Terms of Reference, considering EDIA requirements and potential for collaborations with Indigenous communities; and regularly review Terms of Reference and procedures and develop and implement program and process improvements as necessary.
  • Work closely with the TCA Indigenous Research Advisor to launch an Indigenous-led research program, and to ensure appropriate opportunities for Indigenous community participation in all other TCA research programs.
  • Promote networking opportunities and build and foster partnerships and collaborations, including through the organization of events such as seminars, workshops, joint symposia, and conferences that inform the scientific community.
  • Liaise with researchers to develop public release strategies for research milestones and to identify policy and commercialization opportunities for research outcomes, in partnership with TCA staff (e.g., publications, media releases, IP discussions, commercialization potential, policy opportunities).
  • Support the work of the TCA Research Advisory Committee, and report regularly to TCA governance bodies regarding TCA research programs’ progress.

Occasional travel within Eastern Canada with infrequent travel internationally will be required.

The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in a relevant subject area, with a minimum of 5 years of experience working within a university research environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to engage in respectful conversation.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • A similar combination of education, professional and/or lived experience, and expertise may be considered. Applicants relying on education and experience equivalencies must demonstrate such equivalencies in their application.

Assets
  • Experience in Indigenous community engagement including an understanding of relevant protocols, principles, and practices for respectful engagement.
  • An understanding of Indigenous ways of knowing, particularly regarding the relationship between the ocean, climate, and communities.
  • Experience leading and administering research programs.
  • Bilingualism in English and French and Indigenous languages within Eastern Canada.
  • Master’s degree in ocean studies or PhD in relevant subject area.
  • Project management experience.
