We are seeking a highly motivated Research Associate 1 to join our Biology team, both electrophysiology and in vitro, for new and ongoing drug discovery targets. This individual will be responsible for preparing assay buffers, cell culture reagents, compound stocks and ordering of consumables across the two groups. The candidates’ primary appointment will be in the electrophysiology group, and they will be trained to run functional electrophysiological assays to screen compounds for activity against various targets. The ideal candidate will contribute towards an excellent work environment in which scientific creativity and innovation are maximized and communication is open.

This position reports to the Principal Scientist, Biology, and will be located in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support assigned biology teams by preparing reagents and ordering consumables.
  • Aid in the preparation and running of functional electrophysiological assays
  • Prepare, with assistance, validation reports, manuscripts and SOP’s. Maintain good lab notebook and records.
  • Distribute results and analysis following appropriate review.
  • Interpret results and recommend further studies.
  • Other duties as required from time to time.
  • Act in accordance with Company policies, including, for example, the Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and ensure policies are understood and followed by direct reports, if any.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BSc degree in life sciences or equivalent
  • Skill set in molecular biology techniques including molecular cloning, immunoblotting, cell culture and cell transfections is desirable
  • Laboratory experience with biochemical and cell based pharmacological assays an advantage
  • Laboratory experience with automated liquid handling equipment would be an asset
  • Good communication skills, enthusiasm for laboratory work and good problem solving abilities
  • Excellent record keeping, attention to detail and ability to multi task
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment and be flexible in adapting to change
