The laboratory of behavioral neuroendocrinology at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health is seeking a full-time, contract (12 months) Research Analyst to join our team reporting to the lab manager within the group. The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for behavioral testing in preclinical models, drug injection and administration, sample collection and processing, and basic wet lab research work in a busy lab environment. Responsibilities will also include day-to-day administrative assistance of the lab including purchasing, rectifying financial accounts, and compliance with CAMH administrative policies. The successful candidate will work with a large scientific team, interacting with scientists, post-doctoral fellows, research coordinators and research analysts. You will require strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively and strategically with a variety of programs as well as staff. Responsibilities will include behavioral testing in rodents (mice and rats), performing behavioral assays such as elevated plus maze, touchscreen assays, forced swim test, morris water maze, etc. and working chronic stress paradigms in both sexes. You will also be responsible for performing molecular assays such as immunohistochemistry (IHC). You will require strong organizational and project management skills to assist in coordinating the ongoing efforts of the lab as a whole. The position requires the person to work collaboratively with members of the lab and the animal care facility and will entail participating in performing general lab duties. You will be part of a diverse and growing research team that embraces diversity and encourages teamwork. You are required to comply with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements. This position is located at 250 College Street.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in neuroscience, psychology, pharmacology, biology or in a similar field, combined with a minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience. You must have experience performing rodent behavioral experiments in both sexes, including experience performing rodent vaginal lavages. Experience with basic molecular techniques such as IHC, as well as experience examining hippocampal neurogenesis, and staging rodent estrus cycle’s using a light microscope is needed. The successful candidate must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and STATISTICA (or equivalent software) for performing basic statistical analysis. Excellent communication skills (oral/written) and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic clinical/research team environment with minimal supervision are essential. Experience with project management and administrative organization is considered an asset. You will possess the ability for self-directed learning/working, as well as collaboration and teamwork. Candidates require the ability to work effectively in a wide range of settings with individuals from diverse backgrounds. High importance will be given to confidentiality of the projects. The successful candidate will need to be sensitive to keeping data and protocol details confidential.
