The Verschuren Centre (VC) is a clean-tech development and deployment facility. We provide services to scale clean technology companies, in the areas of biomanufacturing and extraction, carbon transformation, and thermal energy, to the commercial and industrial sectors.

The VC ecosystem is the bridge to a sustainable green economy. Our highly qualified team, work collaboratively with our clients in our modern shared-use facility to scale their innovations for commercialization. In our fast paced, customer driven environment, we displace petroleum products and accelerate net zero goals and GHG reduction targets at our base in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.

Responsibilities

  • Perform various processing operations in lab and pilot scale facilities in accordance with VC Standard Operating Procedures
  • Organize individual daily workflows in accordance with project workplans
  • Work independently while collaborating in the team setting under direction from the Fermentation Lead and Process Engineering team

· Prepare media formulations as per the batch record for charging reactors and complete batch record at each step throughout the process in accordance with QA/QC

· Operationalize pilot scale process equipment and down-stream processes from start to finish such as fermenters, centrifuge, micro/ultrafiltration and spray drying

· Run routine sanitation of process equipment’s and work area

· Assist in troubleshooting and maintenance of equipment in collaboration with the Process Engineering team

· Adhere to bio- safety, product safety, and other SOP toward production of high-quality product.

· Other duties may be assigned depending upon operational needs

Educational Background and Required Skills

  • Diploma or BSc/BASc in chemical or biochemical engineering or a related scientific field or combination of relevant diploma and experience
  • 2 to 5 years practical experience in industrial process operations. Downstream process experience is an asset.
  • Experience with pilot or manufacturing scale of fermentation or related chemical processes is preferred
  • Strong Mechanical aptitude, versatile and flexible
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently

· Ability to prioritize tasks and ensure completion of assignments.

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Sydney, NS B1M 1A2: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)

Experience:

  • Machine Operator: 2 years (required)
