Cancer Care Alberta (CCA) services are provided by a team of health care professionals dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of those affected by cancer by providing support and expert care from the time of cancer diagnosis through treatment and beyond by leaders in cancer diagnosis, treatment, survivorship and palliative care. Rehabilitation Oncology team of OT, PT, SLP and TA collaborate with each other and with other health care professionals to develop and offer services, programming and patient education. The team is working on building capacity locally to deliver effective patient care and is in need of a temporary 0.6 FTE PTI to join the team. Reporting to Rehabilitation Manager North, this PT position is responsible for the assessment and treatment of patients referred to the program as well as development, implementation and evaluation of individual treatment programs according to best practice standards. Care is provided in 1:1, groups, in-person and virtually. The PT is also an active participant in the development of patient educational material, rounds and working groups, case consultation, mentorship of students and staff, triage processes, and quality improvement/research initiatives. Description:

As a Physiotherapist I, you will be working both independently and in an interdisciplinary team providing a range of physiotherapy services to patients and families within the established standards, directives and policies for the work environment and the profession. You will provide guidance to other healthcare professionals and clinical direction to therapy assistants, support personnel and students. You will review clinical referrals, screening and assessing client needs from a physiotherapy perspective in collaboration with other health disciplines as appropriate. You will be developing, planning and implementing physiotherapy services in cooperation with other disciplines in the hospital and community, and establishing and maintaining effective communication with colleagues, medical staff, and health care practitioners concerning treatment plans, progress and discharge. You will be participating in client, family and caregiver education in collaboration with other disciplines, producing and maintaining information, documentation and verbal reports to support the delivery of physiotherapy services. You will maintain a practice knowledge base including knowledge specific to the defined service area, relevant services and resources and regulatory college standards and requirements. We are dedicated to supporting our Physiotherapists in becoming strong practitioners in their practice area and expanding their skillsets regardless of location. All our Physiotherapists have access to a list of experienced clinicians across the province and are able to tap into this resource via email, phone and virtual meetings. As our teams transition to our Provincial Electronic Medical Record (Connect Care) you will also be able to share patient information real time with these senior clinicians to assist you in providing high quality care.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of master’s degree in Physiotherapy from an accredited university program or bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy from an accredited university program and related experience. Active or eligible registration and practice permit with Physiotherapy Alberta College + Association.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Active Heart and Stroke Foundation Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Its Your move patient handling. Alberta Aids to Daily Living (AADL) Authorizer. Minimum three (3) years within the last five (5) years in clinical experience in inpatient or outpatient acute care or rehabilitation setting Minimum five (5) years clinical experience in an inpatient or outpatient acute care or rehabilitation area. Minimum two (2) years oncology and/ or palliative experience. Experience in the past twelve (12) months with referral triage and caseload management. Established relationships with relevant programs in the Central, Edmonton or Calgary Zones. Demonstrated ability to work within a patient-centered, interdisciplinary team of health care professionals. Position is physically demanding and requires repetitive lifting, transferring of patients and or equipment as well as prolonged sitting, keyboarding/computer and headset use.

Preferred Qualifications:

Complete Decongestive Therapy, CLT certification or certification in Lymphedema Management including experience performing Manual Lymphatic Drainage. Professional development within last related to rehabilitation oncology. Effective self-management and time management skills paired with initiative. Intermediate to advanced computer skills: Netcare, Microsoft Office and EMR (EPIC, ARIA). Experience with virtual patient care (phone, Zoom, Telehealth).
