Brief Description


One Permanent, Full-Time Position.
Capital Power Corporation is currently seeking an innovative and results-oriented individual to join our Energy Management Operations Centre team.

The Energy Management Operations Centre (EMOC) provides support to Capital Power’s fleet of assets. The group is primarily responsible for ensuring real-time compliance with ISO rules/regulations, real-time support of Renewable fleet, complex settlement of our JV and PPA assets and commercial settlement development/expertise.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, EMOC, the Performance Specialist, Renewables Assets is responsible for ensuring appropriate cross-functional teams are informed and led to action using data science, analytics, and domain expertise in the efficient implementation of innovative and practical solutions/projects for Capital Power’s renewable generation facilities. The Incumbent will work with the Renewable Energy Analyst, as well as cross-functionally with Engineering, Renewables, Operations, IS, ICS and Commercial Wind, utilizing renewable asset data to support asset availability, optimization, and provide resolution of complex, specialized and often unprecedented issues with the goal of adding value to the organization’s EBIDTA.

Detailed Description


· Execute highly complex, diverse projects to meet project deliverable and Capital Power Corporation objectives.
· Ensure improvement of asset availability, efficiency, and optimal level operation at all times.
· Develop, implement, and review processes to ensure compliance with policies, standards, regulatory requirements and manage risks.
· Maintain a thorough understanding of relevant codes, standards and guidelines and serve as a key resource for technical information.
· Provide support to cross-functional teams which will include Engineering, Renewable, IT and ICS.
· Track Renewable asset performance and work cross-functionally to increase yield.
· Provide expert advice to business stakeholders, senior manager and peers in support of business and strategic goals relevant to the duties of the position.
· Assess problems, solutions and risks based on the financial impact to Capital Power and recommend effective solutions that meet business needs.
· Ensure that assigned projects are evaluated to align with business objectives and provide benefit to the asset.
· Work with multiple teams, managers, and on multiple assets to ensure availability and operational targets are met.
· Provide input and recommendations to Management to improve asset performance, operations, and efficiency of the asset.
· Engage with stakeholders throughout the organization to identify opportunities for leveraging company data to drive business solutions.
· Provides technical advice and recommendations to assist Senior Managers in support of critical business decisions.
· Provide recommendations to improve work processes and issues impacting the department performance and, with highly diverse set of decision support tools, provide an overarching solution instead of problem resolution.
· Develop, compile, and disseminate asset specific operations information including operations strategies and approach, legislative and regulatory changes to improve Capital Power’s collective operational knowledge.
· Utilize experience and operations best practices to collaborate cross-functionally within Capital Power (including Commercial, Engineering, Renewables, IS, ICS) and externally with service providers to identify, recommend and support implementation of agreed processes and systems for availability and operational improvements.
· Provide technical guidance and solutions to effectively support asset production and Health, Safety & Environmental risks.
· Identify and manage risk during project execution to ensure minimal or zero impact to cost and schedule.
· Act as a role model in demonstrating Health, Safety & Environment orientation; adhere to the procedures/rules and standards.
· Collaborate with other people leaders within business groups to increase teamwork and enhance the offering provided by the EMOC Team.
· Collaborate with our Engineering, Renewable, IS and ICS business areas to understand their requirements and translate them into efficient advanced analytics solutions that provide business value.
· Collaborate with external contacts: industry peers to gain an understanding of industry standards and best practices to increase efficiency within EMOC and other business teams.
· Build an understanding of the business at a level of detail that enables the identification of opportunities and potential risks.
· Coach and mentor lower levels including junior Engineers and Engineers in training.


Job Requirements


Education:
· Degree in Computing Science, Sustainability Engineering, Engineering, Management Information Systems, Statistics/Data Science, or Degree in Business with extensive related experience in Statistics, Data Science or Management Information Systems.
Experience:
· 5 to 10 years as a Professional Engineer; Generation, Sustainable Energy or Heavy Industry such as Oil and Gas.
· Experience in analyzing time series data and the Industrial Internet of Things (SCADA, Sensors, Data Historians).
· Understanding of advanced analytics & data science techniques.
· Experience using statistical computer languages (R, Python, MatLab, SQL, etc.) to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets.
· Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
· Effectively work both independently and collaboratively with multiple internal and external stakeholders / customers on multi-disciplinary opportunities and issues.
· Effectively manage multiple competing priorities and tasks and perform under pressure situations.
Technical Skills:
· Must drive action and motivate cross-functional teams to execute on data/result findings and proposed solutions to create and justify value across teams.
· Must work effectively with multi-disciplinary cross-functional teams to drive results and be able to instill a sense of urgency to meet established financial targets.
· Must maintain and demonstrate an operations and commercially focused acumen, supported by strong analytical skills and the ability to simply communicate complex issues / challenges and associated solutions, both internally and externally.
· Must have advanced application skills related to MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, MS BI).
· Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency working with complex contracts, including; review, negotiation, approvals and execution.
· In-depth knowledge of Renewable asset operation; Plant/Field experience preferred.
· Solid understanding of Engineering principles.
· Strong communication skills (written; spoken and presentation).
· System integration experience primarily with large, complex systems.
Working Conditions:
· Primarily Office work; Occasional site visits and project cross-functional coordination.
