Package Engineering Technologist
Providing engineering services to shipbuilding projects, the Package Engineering Technologist is broadly responsible for establishing equipment requirements, performing functional analyses, defining design criteria, preparing engineering calculations, technical purchasing specifications, data sheets and reports.
In addition, the incumbent will be required to review suppliers’ “vendor furnished information” and provide recommendations into 3D models.
Duties/Accountabilities
- Prepare technical purchasing specifications and data sheets based on input received from other areas such as Quality Assurance, Integrated Logistics Systems, Supply Chain and other Engineering subject areas.
- Prepare and/or review standard ship specifications and design criteria
- Prepare engineering calculations such as equipment sizing and ensure that all analyses satisfy user and system requirements
- Assist in the Request for Proposal phase of projects by providing answers to bidder’s questions, perform technical evaluations of submitted proposals
- Review vendor data and provide mentorship into 3D Models
- Support in the management of supplier progress throughout the lifetime of a Subcontract and handle technical design changes.
- Prepare and supply technical memos and reports, within areas of expertise
- Provide recommendations to cost estimates
- Participate in design reviews
Education and Experience
- BSc/BEng in mechanical engineering.
- Registration as a professional engineer. Alternatively, registration as a candidate professional engineer actively working towards professional registration.
- Understanding of industry standards, regulations and codes pertinent to the mechanical engineering field.
- Minimum five years project engineering experience.
Skills, Knowledge and Required Proficiencies
- Good English communication and interpersonal skills.
- Good planning and organizational skills.
- Ability to function as a member of a multidisciplinary team and coordinate mechanical activities between different areas.
- High degree of Technical Writing Skills
- Experience in the use of procedures and workflows in the execution of projects.
