Operations Manager - Full Time
Amalgamated Dairies Limited - Summerside, PE

Amalgamated Dairies Limited (ADL) is a producer-owned, independent cooperative that operates dairy processing and retail food distribution facilities throughout PEI. For 70 years, we have processed fresh milk from PEI farms to produce premium dairy products, including milk, cheese, cream, butter, and ice cream. Our quality dairy products are in kitchens and restaurants across PEI and Canada.

Position Overview:
The Operations Manageris a critical position within the ADL team, reporting to the Director of Operations. This position will support our team with project management, continuous improvement and assist with operational activities at all production and service sites. The Operations Manager collaborates with industry stakeholders and service providers to identify best practices and new technology. The Operations Manager works closely with Business Development, CEO, Finance, QA, and Procurement on planning and strategy. This role will provide day-to-day direction, supervision and mentorship to all direct reports working within our production facilities.

Location:ADL Water St., Summerside, PE
Salary Range:Salary is commensurate with knowledge, skills and experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage material lead times and ensure the production team has enough time to manufacture and deliver products based on the customer’s request.
  • Support the company in production planning and ensure the business is adequately resourced.
  • Understand the costs and profitability of plants and projects with the development of operational and financial objectives in reducing these costs.
  • Engage all levels of management to identify best practices and explore opportunities to increase productivity and streamline functions.
  • Build and foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, leading key CI initiatives.
  • Identify and manage employee development/training ensuring business continuity by building applicable functional competencies
  • Implementation of industry-leading facility safety and customer satisfaction programs
  • Support sustainability objectives by reducing waste, packaging inputs and energy consumption.
  • Development and implementation of long-term manufacturing capacity planning to meet the growth of the business
  • Coordinate and drive new equipment design, selection, integration and automation processes
  • Implementation of industry-leading initiatives in the management team and across the organization that contribute to long-term operational excellence
  • Develop and manage project management tools and methodologies.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Considerable experience in operations management and project management in the food processing environment or dairy industry
  • University degree or college diploma in a related field
  • Post-secondary education in engineering would be considered an asset
  • PMP, PM certification, education, or exposure to lean or six sigma or equivalent process improvement methodologies
  • Strong understanding of food manufacturing and food production regulations
  • Exceptional leadership, organizational, and communication skills
  • Experience in managing teams, process controls, vendor and change management
  • Strong computer skills
