This is accomplished across four geographic management zones which are responsible for the operation of acute care health centres and the provision of a variety of inpatient, outpatient services including academic, tertiary, quaternary care and community based programs and services including continuing care, primary health care, public health, and mental health and addictions.

Responsibilities

The Occupational Therapist works under the supervision of the Health Services Manager. The Occupational Therapist (OT) works in collaboration with the client, caregivers and family to facilitate, restore and/or maintain the patient/clients optimal level of function in the areas of self-care, productivity and leisure. The OT provides consultation, assessment, treatment, evaluation and follow-up while working within the hospital, the client’s home and/or their community. The OT, in collaboration with the client, establishes individualized treatment plans and goals independently manage a busy caseload and use clinical judgement and decision-making skills to prioritize issues on a daily basis. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills are required. he OT provides education and support to clients, families and caregivers. The OT functions as both a member of an occupational therapy clinical team and a multidisciplinary hospital and/or community healthcare team. The OT contributes to the clinical education of OT students and related health disciplines and for supervision of OT Assistants. The OT is responsible for adhering to Nova Scotia Health Authority policies and procedures and to the professional standards of our licensing body, the College of OT’s of N.S.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy
  • Licensure with the provincial regulatory body, the College of Occupational Therapists of Nova Scotia, is mandatory. Membership with the Professional Interest group, the Nova Scotia Society of Occupational Therapists, is also required. Malpractice Insurance must renewed annually and is mandated by legislation.
  • Two years related clinical experience required
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Course (yearly update required)
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Training, Emergency First Aid, Training in Assessment of Motor and Process Skills ( assessment of
  • functional skill of daily living)
  • Knowledge of mental health system and needs of client population including providing safe care for clients, having sound, flexible communication skills, knowledge of where and how to obtain necessary help in emergency and non­emergency situations.
  • Knowledge and experience working in Program Management organizational structure, ability to work autonomously, experience and comfort in working with a cross-discipline team of health professionals, knowledge of how Program Management system applies to clinical care. Knowledge of hospital support services and how to access them (i.e. Dietary service, maintenance department, materials management, human resources)
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours of Work

Full-time (100%) long-assignment; 75.00 hours bi-weekly.

With an anticipated start date of October 1, 2021 and an expected end date of July 1, 2023 (approximately 19 months).

Salary Information

Occupational Therapist (HC73)

$31.85 - $40.22 hourly
