Summary
The Network Specialist designs, installs, configures and supports the local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN) and Internet system including maintenance of network hardware and software. The incumbent will monitor the network to ensure network availability to all system users and complete the necessary maintenance to support network availability. The individual will work with other IT professionals to plan, coordinate and implement network security measures nationally and internationally, within the scope of BGIS global networks.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Network Security and Risk Management
- Manage company’s LAN, WAN, Aruba Wireless LAN and network security infrastructure.
- Proactively develop plans to mitigate risks within the network.
- Assist in maintaining and testing business continuity/disaster recovery plans, processes, and procedures necessary to recover services in the event of a declared disaster.
- Design and Architect Networking solutions to meet business needs.
- Support of network environments includes management of network and security systems, upgrades, multivendor firewalls (Juniper SSG, Juniper SRX, Cisco ASA, Palo Alto), routers, switches, A10 load balancers, Cisco UCS, Cisco Blades Servers and HP Servers.
- Planning upgrades for new network deployments.
- Test, design and plan implementation of new or improved network hardware devices.
- Participate in the planning, design, and development of new Data Center architecture: Build Data Center/ Disaster recovery.
- Monitor and provide daily 3rd level support for the performance and reliability of internet services, ensure that system failures are restored in a timely manner. (measured against SLAs).
- Support for network services including CIFS, DNS, DHCP, SNMP, HTTP, HTTPS and SSLVPN.
- Maintain Avaya VOIP phone systems.
- Competent with VMware configuration, build, management and support (VMware infrastructure).
- Administer FC SAN Storage system.
- Liaise with external suppliers/vendors to ensure that external resources meet the needs of the business (Bell, Telus, Shaw, Insight Canada, A2N Networks, Palo Alto, Optiv).
- Monitor and assess network alerts: determine actual attack characteristics from false-positives.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, diagrams and procedures for the Firewall, Switching and Wireless technologies.
- Prepare and maintain documentation of all LAN, WAN, Load Balancing, DNS and Internet connections and configurations.
- Diploma in an engineering/computer science and 7-10 years of job –related experience
- Strong and proven technical problem analysis, determination and resolution skills
- Demonstrated proficiency using Windows applications (Word, Excel, Access, Internet Explorer, etc.).
- Technical writing including documentation of procedures
- Ability to work effectively under pressure, time constraints and can prioritize competing priorities appropriately
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English)
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and in a team environment
- Excellent customer service skills, with a clear understanding of customer impact and business requirement
- Ability to configure and troubleshoot routers, firewalls, switches, etc.
- TCP/IP management (i.e. Subnetting, VLAN, WiFi, VPNs, etc.)
- Knowledge of network security configuration (i.e. IDP setup, access control lists (ACLs), network traffic encryption, etc.)
- Ability to mentor team members through knowledge-transfer (i.e. Technical Support team members)
- Driver’s license
- CCNA preferred
- JNCIS-FWV preferred
