The Medical Science Director, Oncology - Precision Medicine will have responsibility for designing & executing Janssen’s diagnostics strategy in collaboration with key cross-functional stakeholders of the organization .

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the design & implementation of Janssen Canada Diagnostic national strategy for all tumors /various diagnostic programs (gene therapy, MRD)
  • Provide diagnostics expertise & guidance for oncology TA with a strong focus on launch readiness preparation regarding testing (with future expansion to other therapeutic areas)
  • Build and maintain collaborative internal and external relationships with pathological scientific communities and key hospital, local and provincial lab reference centers
  • In collaboration with relevant medical, access and regulatory stakeholders, shape Guidance recommendations to include defined testing targets in the patient treatment algorithms
  • Drive awareness and education to oncologists and other stakeholders for specific mutations in Oncology/ gene therapy.
  • Drive uptake of NGS or other genomic profiling methods in cross-collaboration with key stakeholders
  • Build with the cross-functional launch and pre-launch teams current & future competitive advantage by understanding & addressing key customers’ needs, including, but not limited to regulatory and reimbursement frameworks and key stakeholders
  • Garner deep understanding of competitors’ commercial and launch strategies
  • Lead the evaluation of diagnostics platforms actively seek effective partnerships with government partners, public/private labs, & industries to support our commercial diagnostic strategy
  • Develop & implement plans for successful launches of Diagnostic programs by facilitating seamless access to testing in CAN that supports the applicable brand strategies
  • Co-create effective mechanisms upon diagnosis or HCP interest to ensure a fast response pathway.
  • Educate across all levels of the organization on Testing/Diagnostic market & business dynamics
  • Establish CAN KPIs & monitoring needs for tests that cover but are not limited to availability and quality of testing, percentage of the targeted patient population being tested, time to results, and testing to therapy ratio
  • Contribute to building internal capabilities required for long-term success in precision medicine
  • Coordinate with CDT supply chain for diagnostics/tests when appropriate (e.g., clinical trials)
  • Develop & oversee demand, forecast planning, and budget for assigned initiatives
  • Closely liaise with policy and access teams to navigate successfully local reimbursement and shape a favorable environment for precision medicine in Canada.
  • Establish a productive work environment by creating trust & respect within all therapeutic areas – with a focus on Oncology & retinal diseases

Qualifications
  • Advance Life sciences degree ( MD, MD Ph.D. in genomics or cell and molecular biology) is required
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech/diagnostic industry in progressive leadership roles is required
  • Strong technical knowledge in molecular and cellular testing techniques, including, but not limited to NGS, PCR, FISH, Flow cytometry
  • Experience in Oncology market preferred
  • Strong communication & negotiating skills required
  • Analytical skills to understand scientific & financial data, recognize key issues & establish business priorities
  • Ability to work in a strong matrix environment & lead by influence required
  • Proven track record of working within highly matrixed environments & cross-functional teams at local & regional/global levels is preferred
