Responsible for the marketing management function of Diabetes. (Integrated pump solutions, continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), Stand-Alone CGM, CareLink, Consumables and Accessories; all product lines) for Medtronic of Canada, with specific responsibility for the growth, development and management of the various product portfolios. Directly manage the staff in the Diabetes Marketing department in Canada and oversee personal development of staff and strategic direction of marketing in conjunction with the Director of Marketing for Diabetes.


Develop markets and launch plans for new products through interactions with Regional Sales Managers, Territory Managers, Clinical Specialists, Health Care Professionals and Business Unit. Review and recommend pricing strategies for current and new products. Liaise with headquarter colleagues in the specific business units and participate in local and global strategy meetings relevant to the Diabetes businesses. Work with key customers, sales force, and management to understand market, competitive strategies, and product opportunities. Prepare market and launch plans for products in the pre-approval stage.

A day in the life.

  • Directs the development of company market requirements for specific product(s) or product line(s).
  • Leads and coordinates product planning, product launches, product management, market development and market research activities.
  • Interacts directly with product managers and marketing managers to identify new marketing opportunities.
  • Works individually or with a team in recommending action, scheduling and planning projects, estimating cost and managing projects to completion.
  • Identifies unmet customer requirements and new business opportunities and provides vision and focus to move products from idea to marketplace.
  • Facilitates and coordinates marketing activities with geographic areas to increase teamwork and build partnerships.
  • Responsibilities may also include coordinating trade show activities, website development, developing future e-commerce strategies, and tracking of marketing campaigns to evaluate results and provide recommendations for future marketing promotions.
  • Responsible for reporting complaints and Adverse Drug Reactions (ADR)
  • Portfolio Management
    • Understand the barriers to technology/product adoption and work with key stakeholders to address and improve patient access.
    • Create and execute strategy and tactics for marketing plans as well as advise where necessary
    • Launch of new products in the portfolios
    • Lead market analysis efforts
    • Oversee pricing of new products within the portfolios
    • Present strategic elements of marketing and launch plans at regional and national Medtronic Meetings.
  • Product Support
    • Create and execute strategy and tactics for Diabetes marketing plans.
    • Manage the launch of all new products in conjunction with marketing staff.
    • Partner with the director to conduct market analysis efforts within the Diabetes division.
  • Account Management
    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with Regional Sales Managers, Territory Managers, Clinical specialist and all other customers through regular field visits.
    • Develop communication materials of new product information for staff and customers in a timely manner.
  • Field Support
    • Identify field and Inside sales and marketing support needs in conjunction with the Territory Managers, Clinical Specialists, Inside Sale and associated team members.
    • Communicate field support needs to MoC Diabetes leadership and recommend tactics and strategies needed to support the field sales network.
  • Other
    • Act as liaison with all functions of the organization with respect to brand/product development.
    • Participate and attend customer facing events
    • Liaise with Business Unit to track pending product releases.
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
  • Ability to travel approximately 30-40% of the time
  • Proven experience - marketing (preferably with medical devices), market research, medical device sales, advertising
  • Experience with technical and clinical product support in the operating room
  • Ability to develop product and therapy expertise
  • Well-developed understanding of the sales process and associated issues
  • Proven business acumen
  • Strong analytical skills in assessing customer and market needs
  • Strong communication skills and good team building capability
  • Networking skills
  • Demonstrated relationship-building and collaboration skills
  • Solid decision-making skills
  • Proven direct and indirect leadership ability
  • Computer Skills-MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook

Nice to Have
  • Advanced degree
  • Familiarity with human anatomy and physiology
  • Knowledge of private and public provincial payers, patient advocacy groups
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
  • Experience in medical technology
  • Bilingualism (English/French)
