The Opportunity


Reporting to a Director, the Manager, Signage and Wayfinding provides subject matter expertise and guidance to clients undertaking rebrand implementation projects in a wide range of industries both in Canada and internationally.

Responsibilities


  • Consulting with clients about all elements of project scope and delivery, providing a high-level of expertise around the signage and select wayfinding aspects of large rebrand implementation projects
  • Serving as a subject matter expert in signage and wayfinding across a range of projects in support of your colleagues in Client Engagement (CE)
  • Reviewing sign implementation in the physical environment through recommendations, manufacturing, installation and recommending ways to optimize it
  • Consulting on creation of application standards and technical specifications based on concepts or design intent
  • Providing support with prototype and first article recommendation in collaboration with designers based on complexity of design and materials required
  • Analyzing prototypes and first article to ensure fabrication is accurate and providing constructive feedback to vendor and client
  • Providing support with the review and interpretation of shop drawings
  • Identifying solutions for difficult designs or installations with the support of a Senior Manager
  • Working with vendors and CE teams to understand complex issues and work together to provide solutions
  • Supporting project deliverables and performance in line with approved project plans and budgets
  • Supporting and/or managing vendors around permits, manufacture and install to help ensure project timelines, budget and quality control expectations are met
  • Collaborate with the Client Engagement team to determine site signage survey approach and engage vendors, as necessary
  • Accompany a Client Engagement team member on an initial site signage survey to establish scope with the survey vendor
  • Consult with Designers to ensure that site recommendations are fully optimized and all prior internal discussions around the various approaches have been completed before handing over to the Client Engagement team a book ready for the client
  • Consult with the Client Engagement team and client on expectations to secure permits and variances, where they exist
  • Work with the Client Engagement team to find solutions to manage vendors proactively and set proper expectations with client, including the participation of project kick-off meetings, weekly status meetings, process improvements and quality control
  • Attend vendor and client visits for kick-off meeting, surveys, manufacturing and installation reviews, when required
  • Identify gaps and opportunities in vendor’s signage installation plans
  • Support the Client Engagement team to choose a punchlist process and finalize the forms for the process
  • Accompany a Client Engagement team member on a punchlist visit
  • Spread knowledge about signage technical knowledge throughout the Client Engagement team through participating in BrandActive CoE program, delivering lunch and learns, working on ActiveLearner courses or other formal training methods
  • Contribute to internal initiatives that impact the client and/or team member experience
  • Bring forward smarter, faster, better solutions to processes and identify opportunities to be more agile in day to day activities

Leadership

  • Serve as a people leader for team member(s), and provide coaching as required
  • Provide feedback that supports team member’s development and career progression
  • Identify opportunities for learning and development that both address team member’s developmental needs and aspirations while keeping the company’s direction and requirements in mind
  • Manage performance and address performance concerns that arise
  • Lead semi-annual reviews for all direct reports
  • May participate and provide input into hiring process for team members
  • Coach each team member as an individual; demonstrates empathy and understanding of diversity and differences
  • Establish and support an inclusive work environment where team members feel a sense of belonging by demonstrating inclusive values and behaviours

Qualifications and Experience


  • Minimum five years of experience in the development and delivery of signage and wayfinding solutions, normally gained through working in the construction, facilities management, property management or signage industries
  • Three to five years of project management experience
  • Ability to review construction and shop drawings against approved signage technical specifications
  • Ability to develop relationships with CE team and rapport with client
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working on large-scale or global projects a definite asset
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complexity including the ability to handle multiple tasks under pressure across more complex/multi-faceted projects
  • Presence including the ability and confidence to manage client calls
  • Demonstrated ability to provide subject matter expertise across a range of projects and clients over time
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Detail-oriented, including the ability to identify important details, ensuring things are not overlooked and delivering a consistently high quality of work, keeping the overall goals of the project in mind
  • Excellent computer skills including MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project or other scheduling software such as Smartsheet or Teamwork Projects
  • Experience with industry standards, materials and manufacturing knowledge; understanding fabrication, finishes, illumination and installation methods. Understanding of existing building construction and best practice for the sign application
  • Understanding of industry best practices and keeping up with technology and product options.
  • Additional languages are an asset
