Role Summary:

The Medical Information Manager is responsible for leading, mentoring and engaging a team of Medical Information Associates in the delivery of Medical Information services across a designated therapeutic portfolio. The MI Manager takes the lead in developing and implementing Medical Information tactics in support of department and division goals and provides oversight and support of Medical Information plans that align with therapeutic area strategies. The MI Manager is accountable for ensuring that internal and external customers are informed on the appropriate use of Janssen products to optimize healthcare management and takes an active role in planning and implementing integrated analysis using relevant data sources, MI trends and stakeholder insights. The MI Manager may also play a role in the leadership/oversight, compliance monitoring, and organizational effectiveness of the Medical Information Contact Centre (MICC).

Major Responsibilities:

Organizational and Departmental Leadership:

  • Provide strategic direction to ensure that the medical information needs of external and internal customers are met.
  • Provide oversight of fulfillment of responses to medical/scientific queries from healthcare professionals (HCPs), consumers, and internal customers (researching, evaluating, analyzing, summarizing information); manages complex/escalated inquiries as needed.
  • Represent Medical Information knowledge/capabilities internally and externally by working closely with cross-functional partners to ensure proactive, appropriate, and timely engagement of Medical Information.
  • Proactively generate and communicate meaningful insights/metrics and practical recommendations based on results of the analysis and comprehensive understanding of therapeutic area objectives, external environment, compliance and regulatory requirements, MI trends and/or stakeholder insights.
  • Take a leadership role in providing input and expertise into shaping and communicating departmental strategies, goals & objectives, MI process excellence and project portfolio.
  • Provide project sponsorship, leadership and/or oversight of local and global Medical Information projects/programs.
  • Manage the development, use, and content for platforms that leverage Medical Information.

Business Relationship Management:

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to identify key opportunities to leverage strengths of Medical Information for competitive business advantage.
  • Develop and implement strategies with business partners to manage medical communications.
  • Collaborate closely with local/global Medical Information and Medical Affairs partners to define opportunities for increased efficiency and to ensure Medical Information capabilities and activities are aligned.

Organizational/People Leadership:

  • Assign accountabilities and manage workload and resources within the specific Medical Information team to ensure that all members achieve their key objectives.
  • Hold team accountable for development and execution of MI therapeutic area business plans.
  • Provide monitoring and oversight of MIAs to ensure policies and procedures are followed.
  • Provide an environment which encourages the company’s dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I).
  • Develop the competencies of team to achieve optimal performance. Provides motivational and inspirational coaching and prepares team for career development.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy or a degree in Life Sciences, Pharmacology or Biological Science is required; advanced graduate degree a strong asset (MSc, MBA, MD, PhD, PharmD)
  • A minimum of 5 years of related experience, including 3 years in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Previous people Management experience
  • Demonstrated skills in leadership, strategic thinking and people development
  • Previous experience in a healthcare environment beyond Medical Information including, but not limited to, Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, and/or Clinical Research (including call centre management)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including presentation skills to effectively communicate scientific/medical information to healthcare professionals, consumers, and internal business partners
  • Strong interdependent partnering ability; solid negotiation and influencing skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, dynamic and professional environment
  • Broad therapeutic area expertise aligned to Janssen’s Disease Area Strongholds
  • Working knowledge of relevant software programs (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Products, Salesforce, VeevaVault, Qlik, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of common digital/virtual platforms (e.g. Zoom, Teams, etc.)
  • Bilingualism in English and French is an asset
  • Openness/ability to travel up to 5% (domestic or international)
