About Us:

The Earth Resources and Geoscience Mapping Section delivers its program through multi-year, multidisciplinary geoscience projects that address critical geoscience problems in key geographic areas of the province to improve the understanding of the geology, geochemistry and Earth resources (metals, minerals, aggregates, groundwater, hydrocarbons) of Ontario and to convey this knowledge to the public. The section ERGMS conducts a variety of regional geoscience projects across the entire province including airborne geophysical surveys, bedrock and surficial mapping, lake water and sediment sampling surveys, 3D subsurface mapping, aggregate and industrial mineral inventories. The section’s geoscience products (data, maps, reports) and expert services are used for mineral exploration, land-use planning, establishment of environmental baseline and public health and safety.

Deliver on Business Goals and Priorities

Your leadership will be crucial in guiding the team towards the achievement of it’s business goals. It will be your responsibility to inspire and motivate your team to deliver their best performance and align the team’s daily actions with the strategic vision of the ministry.

You will contribute to the achievement of team goals by:

• Leading and delivering a diverse range of regional geoscience mapping, sampling and inventory projects across Ontario as part of the provincial geoscience mapping program.

• Providing leadership, coaching, guidance and direction to professional and technical employees to ensure effective and timely delivery of high-quality geoscience projects.

• Managing the administrative functions and activities of the Earth Resources and Geoscience Mapping Section, at the project-level, in accordance with relevant legislation, regulations and policy.

• Establishing and fostering stakeholder collaboration with senior geoscience representatives of industry, governments and academia and participating in project-level Indigenous engagement practices and collaborations.

• Managing high value geophysical, geochemical, geochronology and drilling contacts to ensure effective contract compliance and completion.

• Participating on committees and planning groups associated with regional, provincial or interjurisdictional geoscience initiatives, conferences, symposia, workshops and/or public forums.

How do I qualify?

Leadership Experience:

• You have experience managing a team of technical staff, delivering results and effectively leading a team through change.

• You can provide supervision, motivation, guidance, coaching and direction to staff including performance management and development.

• You have knowledge of project management practices and principles to organize and manage a diverse range of geoscience projects, with a proven track record of successful project completion.

• You have demonstrated skills in managing human, material and financial resources.

Technical Expertise:

• You have working knowledge of geoscience and its application to address a range of public policy needs such as land use planning, public health and safety, infrastructure and mineral development.

• You have knowledge of field project operations, activities, logistics and related operational requirements in urban, remote and semi-remote locations.

• You have knowledge of scientific research principles, practices and techniques gained through relevant experience and/or equivalent academics.

• You are able to coordinate and participate in the dissemination of geoscience data and information by ensuring the timely publication of geoscience results.

• You have knowledge of health and safety policies and regulations to ensure safety compliance in office and field workplaces.

Communication and Relationship Management Skills:

• You demonstrate superior written and oral communication skills to articulate strategy, direction, advice and recommendations to a range of internal and external clients and to represent the ministry on various committees.

• You can establish and foster stakeholder collaboration with senior geoscience representatives of industry, governments and academia and participate in project-level Aboriginal engagement practices and collaborations.

• You can prepare and deliver presentations at regional, provincial and national conferences.

• You can build and maintain effective networks and teams within and across organizational units as well as with Indigenous communities, external stakeholders, and collaborators to gather input, build consensus and deliver on goals and priorities.

• You have excellent analytical, negotiation and issues management skills to manage a range of sensitive issues, complaints and queries to arrive at positive resolutions.
