Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director, Aviation Infrastructure, Energy & Environment, this position is responsible for working closely with the Manager, Airfield Electrical Maintenance to maintain premier performance and reliability of the airfield lighting and other operationally critical airside electrical assets in a high growth environment. This position is also required to ensure ongoing compliance with all regulatory and audit requirements (eg. TP312, Transport Canada, GTAA SMS, etc.).

Key Accountabilities:

  • Analyze system performance and develops tactics for improvement
  • Work with engineering to lead asset life cycle and system architecture to ensure:
    • assets are identified for replacement or upgrade just prior to reaching end-of-life
    • there are appropriate levels of redundancy,
    • safe and efficient maintainability of infrastructure and
    • minimize response times for corrective repairs to operationally critical assets.
  • Planning for the above needs to take into account the GTAA’s short and long term growth forecasts.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable environment, health and safety and company policies, rules and regulations (TP312, Transport Canada, GTAA SMS, etc.)
  • Keeping up to date with all changes to regulatory requirements
  • Updating work procedures and documentation to maintain full compliance with regulatory requirements and leading practices
  • Participating in SMS and Transport Canada audits and address any audit findings in a timely manner
  • Lead by consistently demonstrating the expected levels of performance and effort.
  • Provide the team with ongoing oversight, coaching and make sure all staff receive the training they require to perform their duties.
  • Inspire an environment with an open communication culture
  • Develop customer/partner relationships to facilitate effective working relationships with the internal clients and external customers
  • Assist in the development of the 5-year business plan by supplying the plans for Airfield Electrical
  • Developing trends and analysis to support the annual OPEX Budget for Airfield Electrical and lead the Units Budget through monthly reviews and variance analysis
  • Establish and submit capital projects including restoration to realize the business plans,
  • Engage Strategic Sourcing and other partners to develop tenders and award contracts that enable the delivery of maintenance services that meet or exceed established standards
  • Negotiate with suppliers, agencies and others to create optimal business agreements to deliver maintenance services
  • Engage the Engineering team to resolve engineering related technical concerns with respect to Airfield Electrical. Work with the Engineering team to ensure alignment through regular communication and collaboration
  • Management and oversight of contracts that support facilities and systems

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in electrical engineering and/or licensed journeyman electrician
  • 10+ years of dynamic experience in the Electrical field
  • 3+ years prior leadership experience building impactful, highly skilled and motivated teams in a unionized environment preferred
  • Possess a valid Certified Facility Manager (CFM) or Facilities Management Administrator (FMA) or equivalent certification
  • A valid class “G” Ontario Driver’s license is required
  • In addition, the successful candidate must also have or be able to obtain “DA” AVOP for Buildings within 30 days of appointment to position
  • Able to obtain and retain Transportation Security Clearance

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and Fire Safety Codes
  • Experience working and leading within unionized workforce
  • Demonstrated experience working in a customer centric environment
  • Ability to effectively maintain and manage operating and/or capital budgets
  • Ability to think strategically and with a customer centric focus
  • Ability to work with a unionized staff and ensuring compliance to safety and training
  • Excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills including sound reasoning and judgment
  • Ability to work under pressure while meeting multiple demands
  • Excellent Organizational Skills (planning, goal setting, prioritizing, scheduling)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong technical proficiency and/or experience related to the types of systems to be maintained
  • Ability to motivate staff and achieve desired results
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with internal and/or external partners
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Thorough knowledge and proficiency with computers, MS Office Suite products (Word, Excel & Outlook)
  • Understanding of Canadian Aviation Regulations, [CARS], Transport Canada Aerodrome Standards and Recommended Practices and TP312 preferred

The GTAA is a private not-for-profit corporation and a federally regulated employer. The Government of Canada has suspended mandatory vaccination requirement for federally regulated transportation sector workers. The GTAA has also suspended the application of the mandatory vaccination requirement in its COVID-19 Vaccination Policy. However, GTAA continues to monitor government and health developments relating to COVID -19 and may re-introduce the Vaccination and proof of Vaccination requirements in the Policy at any time.
