Permanent Full Time

The Mail Clerk is responsible for the accurate and timely picking, packing, and shipping of various items for Canada Life advisors and policyholders across Canada, with occasional shipments to the U.S. This position is located at the Canada Life office in London, Ontario (255 Dufferin Avenue) onsite 5 days a week.

What You Will Do

  • Pick up mail from loading dock and manually sort by floor all incoming mail and inter branch courier bags. Maintain daily manual volume log sheets for Canada Post mail and inter office branch.
  • Unidentified general mail to be opened and identified for the various departments. Unidentified address names to be looked up on the online computer system and sent to the various floors.
  • Manual separation, collation, folding, inserting, and mailing out of multiple page agent copies.
  • Accurately sort and distribute incoming Canada Post mail, inter office mail and couriers to the various floors and departments. Obtain signatures on palm pilots for any courier delivery. Personalized sorting of mail for some floors. Pick up any outgoing Canada Post, inter office mail and couriers. Ensure proper costs codes are attached for charge backs and couriers have a ship request attached. Move boxes and packages up to 40 lbs. each.
  • Assist with any ad hoc mailings including outgoing registered mail, return mail.
  • Use metering machines to add postage to all outgoing mail using the correct company and cost center codes.
  • Collect sort and prep all inter office branch mail bags.
  • Prepare shipping documentation utilizing the automated FedEx system which requires verification of address location, Cost Centre information and company account numbers
  • Assist in the end of day close, by moving mail carts (on wheels) weighing up to 300 lbs. to the loading dock.

What You Will Bring

  • Grade 12 completion
  • Must be able to lift boxes weighing up to 40 pounds
  • Excellent Matching/Recognition skills with the ability to pay close attention to detail
  • Adapt to work fluctuation in a fast-paced deadline-oriented environment
  • Basic knowledge of Windows as well as any courier computer systems is an asset
  • Knowledge of basic mailroom functions and shipping procedures would be an asset
  • Due to the high profile of a number of our clients, a Federal Government Enhanced Screening is a job requirement and this will involve fingerprinting and a credit check

The base salary for this position is between $31,400 - $42,500 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).
