Position Summary:

The Azrieli Centre for Neuro-Radiochemistry, Brain Health Imaging Centre at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is seeking a Full-Time, permanent Independent Scientist (Radiochemist) with expertise in pharmaceutical chemistry, positron emission tomography (PET) radiopharmaceutical chemistry for neuroimaging with carbon-11 and fluorine-18, and molecular imaging to expand its research program. CAMH is a world leader in the development of PET radiopharmaceuticals and their translation to brain research in psychiatry, addiction and neurology. The successful candidate will will be nominated for the rank of Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and will take a lead role in developing a highly innovative new preclinical and translational radiochemistry program to support human PET imaging studies with a focus on carbon-11 and fluorine-18 labeled radiochemistry applied for PET neuroimaging. Outstanding organic, medicinal and analytical chemistry skills for synthesis and characterization of small molecules in the central nervous system (CNS) are required to lead novel PET radiopharmaceutical discovery. The successful candidate will be required to establish local, national and international collaborations, provide practical supervision of undergraduate, graduate and post-doctoral trainees a as well as lead research activities and publications through extramural funding sources. Maintaining an active and current publication record and dissemination of results for those activities including conference presentations, as well as active research grants as the Principal Investigator is also expected. Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have Ph.D. (or equivalent degree) in synthetic organic chemistry or radiochemistry focusing on neuroscience, with relevant post-doctoral and/or junior faculty experience carrying out radiochemistry for PET neuroimaging. The candidate must possess extensive experience in synthetic organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, carbon-11 and fluorine-18 PET radiopharmaceutical chemistry, biochemical characterization, all relevant to brain-PET studies. Extensive expertise leading organic and medicinal chemistry research is mandatory to develop novel small molecule radiopharmaceuticals, and the position will also require overseeing all chemistry laboratories and maintaining the highest level of safety standards and regulatory compliance. Experience with 11C and 18F reactions, automated radiochemistry modules is required. Knowledge and experience in PET preclinical neuroimaging, including autoradiography and biochemical assays and in vivo evaluation of radiotracers in a range of species and models are assets, as the candidate will be expected to translate novel PET neuroimaging agents for clinical research. Excellent written and communication skills as evidenced by an outstanding continuous publication record in PET neuroimaging and radiochemistry as the lead or senior author over at least the past 5 years are essential. Research leadership should also be demonstrated by current presentations at national and international symposia. A proven ability to work in an interdisciplinary and collaborative environment is necessary. Bilingualism (French/English) or proficiency in a second language is an asset.
